Nymm 3, 998
(Starting Xp: 3,000)
Cara, Lia, and Veit have been hired by House Orien to go to the Talenta Plains in
search of a derailed Lightning Rail which was carrying priceless art in its luggage
hold. We meet up with them as they are on their way through the plains. They
discover a halfling village and after some careful negotiations the party is able to
get the direction where the rail is (north, about 4 days travel). The party heads
out of the village and travels for a day. They clear a spot in the grass and camp for
Nymm 4, 998
As dawn approaches Veit spots a velociraptor (Deinonychus MM1 60). Lia,
already awake from her 4 hr meditation hears a couple more from different
directions. Veit quickly gathers his axe and awakes Cara, as Cara gets to her feet
one of the velociraptors attack. It leaps at Veit but overshoots and lands in front
of him, then the rest attack. The party is able to defeat them and Cara cooks up
some of the dinosaur meat while Lia meditates to regain her energies. Cara cooks
the meat on Lia’s sword then all eat. Veit cleans and sharpens Lia’s sword as well
as his axe. Carrion birds start to gather around the campsite, attracted by the
meat and the party moves on. As the party travels Lia falls into a footprint left by
a large dinosaur that was hidden in the grass. They spend the remainder of the
day avoiding whatever made that footprint, continuing into the night. They come
to a ravine and decide to camp and cross it in the daylight.

Nymm 4, 998
During the night as Veit stood watch and Lia came out of her meditations Lia
hears the faint sounds of battle to the east. She and Veit decide to remain at the
camp and listen to make sure the sounds come no closer.
Nymm 5, 998
After Cara wakes up, the party decides to investigate the sounds from last night.
They travel east along the ravine until the come across a battlefield strewn with
the corpses of halflings and their dinosaur mounts (Clawfoot ECS 279) and a
metallic dog (Iron Defender ECS 286) broken into parts. One dinosaur remains
alive but just barely. It hobbles around the battlefield trying to find its master.
Cara attempts to get near the beast but it is Lia it goes to. As they inch closer to
each other the dinosaur tries to bite Lia but it misses and falls into the ravine.
As the party investigates the fallen they realize the halflings are the hunting party
from the village they recently left, including the Chief’s son Torell Padfoot. Veit
takes the broken bow of the Torell Padfoot and a lock of hair containing beads
from each halfling to return to the village. He then takes each one and buries
Lia discovers a bridge that leads to the other side of the ravine and stands watch
there. As Veit finishes up the burials Lia sees four figures that look humanoid and
a fifth that appears to be a large dog starting across the bridge. She runs back to
tell the others and is spotted. The figures say: “Drop your weapons and flee!”
Thinking the dog might be another metal one like what is on the ground she
announces: “Stay back, we have a rust monster!” but one of them orders the dog
across. Cara gets behind the body of a dead dinosaur and hides, Veit uses Dol
Dorn’s gift and enlarges himself and Lia stands behind Veit. As the dog gets closer
all attack it. Soon the humanoid figures move across the bridge and the party
sees them for what they truly are; warforged (ECS 20). After the party defeats
them all, Veit moves the warforged in front of the graves and carves epitaphs into
the chest plates. The pieces of the two dogs are placed in the graves to prevent
wild animals from digging them up and Veit pushes the dead dinosaur over the
ravine. Loot is divided:

The party decides to go to the other side of the ravine to sleep. They walk 50’
west from the bridge and start stomping the grass flat when something grabs
Cara. She screams “Get it off!” and the party starts attacking it but to no avail.
They discover it is a metal hand and in the quiet they can hear a muffled voice
underground. The party starts digging; Veit summons a dog to help. As they
uncover more they discover a warforged buried. They try to get it to let go of
Cara but it refuses to until it is out of the ground. The party continues to dig until
the warforged can move its arm. It then releases Cara and digs itself out. While
the party digs they find bones, rings, a cloak, and boots. Cara digs even further
and finds a dagger.
After the warforged is free from the ground it introduces itself as soldier #242.
He states he was attacked by a wizard who softened the ground and pushed him
in. He was able to grab the wizard and pull him in also where the wizard died.
When asked his name he was taken by surprise and had to think, finally coming
up with Awol after discovering he had been buried in the ground for 54yrs.
Identifying the importance of wizard bones for her necromantic spells, Lia begins
putting as many of the bone fragments together as she can. Veit is able to
identify the items found in the ground. Loot is divided:
Veit: White Ring: Featherfall, Boots: Freedom of movement
Lia: Blue Ring: Ring of the Ram, Ruby ring with diamonds chips, White Ring:
minor spell storing, Skullbone, left hand bone
Cara: Cloak of Elvinkind, +2 Dagger with fire, fortitude damage on crits.
Veit gives Awol the greataxe and tells him there are others of his kind across the
ravine. He asks the party to show him and they do. He destroys them and says
they are Breland and the enemy. He goes back and digs up his weapons while the
party prepares to rest.

Nymm 6, 998
The journey leads to the Lightning rail conductors. The party follows them west
for half a day. They soon come across a black roiling wall of mist. Veit is the first
to walk through, followed by Cara (who is pushed through by Lia), Then Lia and
Awol. Cara gets chilled walking through the mist and cannot seem to warm up for
hours afterward. No one else is affected. Following too close to the stones sends
sparks out so the party maintains a distance but continues to follow them west.
After a while the party starts to see a large battle taking place with undead
(Karrnathi Skeletons ECS 292) as the soldiers and wizards in the background.
Puddles of fire and puddles of black energy oozed around the field as well. As the
undead fell they would reanimate and continue fighting in a never-ending
struggle. Veit told the party he would pray for the ability to get all through
unseen if they would rest first. All agreed and set up camp away from the battle
and the stones.
Nymm 7, 998
The next day Veit cast a spell that rendered them invisible to undead and they
started heading through the battle. There were a few close calls as undead
swords swung near the party but it seemed as if the spell worked. As they were
approaching the end of the battle lines a puddle of fire headed in their direction.
Veit sent his god’s power to destroy it and they got through the lines.
As the party followed the stones it abruptly stops at the edge of a hole. Looking
down the party sees a lightning rail traveling an uneven circle of lightning stones.
The party decides to rest while they discuss how best to retrieve the items
believed to be in the vehicle.
Nymm 8, 998
While Awol lifts Cara to get her onto the train, a h-elf approaches them and says
hello. The party turns to her with weapons drawn but she is able to convince
them she means no harm. She explains that she is the only survivor of a group
sent to recover some priceless artifacts. The party reveals that they too are on a
similar mission and join forces. Awol gets Cara onto the train, with minimal
damage, through one of the windows. After a few minutes she discovers how to
stop the train and does so. As soon as the train stops she sees movement from
further in. She rejoins the party and a creature (Fire Mephit MM1 182) follows
her out. At first it speaks in a language no one understands, but then it switches
to common and asks why the party stopped the train. The party tries to explain
to it that they need the train but it just makes a rude noise and starts running for
the train. Veit hollers out to stop the creature and starts running after it.
Everyone manages to get on the train just before the mephit starts the train
running again. More of the same creatures are onboard and rise up out of the
ash to attack. Veit tries to reason with the creature but it refuses to stop the train
for more than a minute. The party dispatches with the creatures and gets the
train stopped again.
Nymm 8-15, 998
The party works to move the conductor stones into a position to enable the train
to get out of the hole it is in. Selena is able to sustain those of the party that
require food off of lichen found in the cave and Veit supplies water. The party
gets the train moving and heads out of the mists.
Nymm 16, 998
The party spots the remains of the halfling village and Cara asks to stop the train.
The party explores the village and is able to find food but no survivors. Veit
returns the bow and hair to the village and all move on.
Nymm 17, 998
Party sits down with Awol and explains that we are going to Breland (ECS 142)
and they are not the enemy anymore, the war has been over for a while. Awol
agrees not to start a war as soon as he is off the train.
Nymm 19, 998
Cara and Lia spot 3 pegesi with riders coming towards the train. They demand
the train to be stopped. Veit stops the train and the 3 soldiers from Valenar (ECS
210) question the party. When all seems in order they give the train leave to
continue and fly off.
Nymm 20, 998
The train arrives in Valenar and the party is immediately disembarked and taken
to a room where they are held until summoned, except for Awol who is treated as
property and put into the storage room with the rest of the items from the train.

A member of house Orien, Gideon D’Mir, comes and talks to the party. He tells
them that they don’t have to worry about any of the goods; they are being taken
care of and will be delivered to the right people. The party insists on being paid
and getting written confirmation of their contract completion. Gideon yields and
tells the party there will be a train waiting for them that they can finish their

The party arrives at Breland and receives their reward plus a bonus for the extra
items and informed they must take items to buyer. They decide to go resupply
and put in orders for upgrade beforehand.

Lharvion 1, 998
As the party (minus Awol) steps out the door of the Hammer and Nail Inn, they
are greeted by a man demanding they hand over the manifest papers to the
cargo. The party refuses and the man attacks along with some men he had
brought with him and several wizards on a bridge. The party is able to defeat the
group but as they are searching the bodies the city guard approaches and detains
them. After several hours (and a hefty bribe) the party was released and sent on

They take an air carriage to the warehouse. As the party walks to the front doors,
they are ambushed by more people seeking the papers and artifacts. Veit tells
them to come take it from him and they attack. As the party continues the attack
Selena falls and Cara rushes over to save her. As soon as Veit enlarges himself he
gets hit and falls as well. Cara rushes over to save him. She manages to stop the
bleeding but Dol Dorn decides to have a face to face with his servant. After
having a talk with Veit, Dol Dorn throws him back down. Awol shows up and kills
the last wizard while the party finishes the fighters. The party is able to get the
artifacts to their destination and spend the rest of the time waiting on items to be
done in the shops.

Lharvion 2-19, 998
Veit is awakened nightly from dreams in which he is attacked by dragons of
Lharvion 20, 998
As Veit, Selena, and Lia were enjoying a quiet (first one in awhile) breakfast they
were approached by a messenger, who introduces himself as Thariv, ‘requesting’
their, or rather Veit’s, appearance. The group decides to go and they are taken
to the house of Lyrandar and lead down a series of twists, turns and doors before
stopping at a room. After a short wait several men come into the room from a
portal that opens in the wall escorting a large barbaric-looking man with flaming
red hair. He begins asking Veit about his dreams and Veit responds with
questions of his own. “Red” leans down as if to whisper something to Veit and his
face briefly shimmers into a red dragon and back. Thariv asks “Red’s” name and
“Red” says his names are many but we can call him Ivan. Eventually it is revealed
to the party that he is a red dragon (MMI 75-77) and that he is to take Veit to the
Isle of Dragons so that they may know if his ‘song’ is what they are seeking. Also
that he isn’t taking no for an answer. The party agrees and Ivan calls in a member
of the house to set up a ship and crew. Thariv offers to captain the ship and Ivan
agrees. Thariv selects his crew of 20 and the ship is ready in 6 days.
Lharvion 26, 998
Everyone is transported to the airship via an air carriage when it is suddenly
attacked by a silver dragon (MMI 86-88). Lia is knocked out and while Veit tends
to her the dragon rips holes in the roof. Thariv climbs out and tries to regain
control of the driverless cart. Selena climbs out after him and shoots the dragon
with her bow. After knocking the dragon out of the air the party arrives at the
docks and boards the ship. Veit sees Awol loading cargo into the ship and goes to
him Veit asks Awol if he would like to join and Awol asks if this is an order.
Getting the hint Veit says yes and Awol retires from his former employment,
violently, when the dockmaster refuses to release him from contract. After Awol
is on board, Veit introduces him to Thariv and instructs Awol that Thariv is boss on
the ship. The ship launches and heads to the Island.

The crew spots a flock of Rocs (MMI 215) but they stay distant enough not to

The ship is attacked by another air ship with a psychic creature (Mindflayer MMI
186-188) on board. When the party defeats the creature, the rest of the enemy
ship’s crew surrender, having been under the influence of the mindflayer and not
responsible for their own actions. Some of the other crew comes aboard the
party’s ship and Thariv trades them some of the ship’s food stores for unrefined

Barrakas 9, 998
Ivan turns into his dragon form and leaves the ship only to return when they are
out of port. The party makes landfall on an island to resupply and gets a very
harsh welcome. As Awol is spotted several people seem very interested but he is
treated as property. No one is allowed to go beyond the docks and Awol isn’t
even allowed beyond a boundary drawn with fairy fire. Thariv takes Lia, Veit, and
Selena with him to resupply. As Thariv heads to the stores, he is approached by
two gentlemen trying to buy Awol. Thariv insists he is not for sale and the men go
away. Party trades ore and extra weapons for supplies.
Thariv is summoned back to the ship to handle a problem and the others finish up
their purchases. The men who tried to buy Awol are now showing a writ of sale
and demanding Awol be turned over. Awol is refusing to go and has ripped a rail
off the ship to use as a club. Thariv is able to talk to the captain of the guard and
get the situation resolved, at least for the moment.
Thariv returns to the docks to seek replacements for the crew he lost in the
battle. He meets a group of sailors who have been trapped here since their ship
sank. With little food and no work they practically beg to go with the only
stipulation that all go or none. Thariv accepts and all head to ship to await the
arrival of the goods the next day.
As all sleep on the ship the watchman calls out trouble. The two men again are
trying to get Awol; and this time they brought a bunch of people. Awol, and two
of the new recruits, Nathan and Tattoo, go to the boundary and wait for them to
cross. As Nathan talks to the ringleaders he identifies one of them as the one
who sank his ship. Selena fires an arrow and takes him out while Veit and Lia take
out the other one. The crowd drops their weapons and disperses while Nathan
and Tattoo reacquire their gear that was stolen from them.

After stripping the two bodies they are weighted and thrown into the ocean. The

Barrakas 10, 998
Thariv goes and negotiates with one of the shop owners to help him cash the
banknote. He comes back to the ship and awaits the arrival of all the goods. An
investigation is being held about the disappearance of two prominent people and
a group of investigators request an inspection of the ship to make sure they are
not aboard. Thariv agrees and takes them on a tour of the ship. When they are
satisfied they leave and the goods start arriving. Goods for ship:

Thariv is also handed a large sack with 12,500gp from the cashing of the bank
note. The ship heads out again and Ivan returns to the ship.

Barrakas 22, 998
The ship approaches the island of Aerenal where they see dragons of every color
flying around large statues of dragons. As the ship lands they are greeted by a
silver dragon (MMI 86-88) who changes into a humanoid female and guides Veit,
Captain Jack, AWOL, to the beach where the meet an old man at a campsite. He
explains the rules of the game and draws a map in the sand telling them where
the dragon is. Another group gets interested in the drawings but Captain Jack is
able to scuff it out before they arrive. The two leaders get into a fight and Jack
wins. There is a map of the area on the body and Jack takes it. Thyrin and Ffael
approach the party and ask to join and everyone agrees. The party makes camp
there and waits for the games to begin in the morning.
Barrakas 23, 998
As the day dawns a group of people are walking around the campsites cutting one
person from each group and letting the blood drip onto a bowl. They dip a fox tail
in the blood and then set it on fire. When they get to the party’s site they pick
Ffael but he refuses. Thyrin volunteers to takes his place. The ritualists agree and
mark Ffaie as a coward by smearing a yellow paste on his face. A half dragon
(MMI 146-147) walks up to the camp and offers some advice and some gems
(that attract dragons) but assures them he will win. After each campsite has had
the ritual performed the games begin and all set out. At the edge of a forest, a
green dragon (MMI 74-75) attacks the party and all fight it off. Thyrin dies as the
dragon exhales its last breath while dying. As the party looks around they see a
blue dragon (MMI 73-74) finishing off a group and looks over at the group. They
quickly dart into the forest and encounter an area blanketed in magical silence.
Veit remembers the sign language they are being taught by one of the crew of the
ship, Tattoo, and begins signing to the group. Six pseudodragons (MMI 210-211)
come out and attack but the party manages to shoo them away. As the party
advances into the forest they are attacked by a mound of vegetation (MMI 222-
223) just outside of the silence spell. After the party defeats it they decide to
make camp on the mound.

Barrakas 24, 998
As the party sleeps just before dawn, a gnome on a dinosaur approaches the
party. After a close call to battle he is welcomed into the party. Shortly
afterwards an elf asks to join the party also. As the party progresses deeper into
the forest they are attacked by 3 juvenile green dragons (MMI 74-75). Awol
destroys his sword on a botched swing at one of the dragons, hitting a tree
instead. After the battle the elvin ranger tracks the green dragons back to a cave.
After Captain Jack clears out the toxic gasses inside the party is able to go inside.
They find the dragon’s horde and a dead black dragon (MMI 71-72) that the 3
green ones had killed. The gnome Qwerty is able to start repairing Awol while the
rest of the party sorts treasure.

Barrakas 25, 998
As the party tries to sleep a gold dragon attacks, with it is a half dragon shaman.
One of the wings on the dragon is broken and the party easily defeats both. After
the battle, a troop comes up and offers to escort the party to the dragon counsel.
They explain there was a sabotage and the party was never supposed to be part
of the contest. The party accepts and they go before the counsel. Veit tells his
tale and all get prizes in exchange for what they gathered on the island. Ffael and
Qwerty choose to stay on with the dragons.

After 8 days; all climb aboard the airship and have a safe journey back.

After several months of being back in the city, Cara decides to look up Veit. As
they are talking over drinks, a human female named Pandril walks in looking for
Veit. Soon after a male human named Sebastian walks in and a male elf named
Vaelis is also looking for Veit. After some confusion, all agree to help Sebastian
search for some missing nobles presumed lost in the Necropolis.
Zarantyr 4, 999
All take the lightning rail where Pandril discovers a Minotaur cleric of her faith.
Cara and Vaelis take care of a couple of men on the same path as theirs. After
one man is blinded and the minotaur cleric breaks his knees, Pandril is called to
help but she does not have the spells necessary. After arriving at the Necropolis
and assuring that the injured are taken care of, the party begins their search for
the missing nobles. The party runs into a group that they had met on the train, a
couple of nobles trying to prove their worth to their maidens by fair or foul.
Pandril is able to convince a guard that is with the group of nobles to tell her how
to open the crypt they are at. After Pandril ‘pays’ the guard for his information
the party heads underground.

Zarantyr 5, 999
As the party explores they find a set of stairs covered in grease and Vaelis
suggests burning the grease off. Cara lights the stairs on fire and they continue
down the hall. The party enters a door and sees a coffin in the center. Veit walks
into the room and is attacked by a giant spider. The spider misses Veit and the
party starts attacking it while more spiders come down from the ceiling. While
the party attacks the spiders, the noise awakens three people trapped in cocoons.
They start getting themselves free and help to destroy the spiders. After the
battle the third person trapped in the cocoon starts screaming for help, unable to
get himself free. After freeing the mage, the three introduce themselves as
guards for a party of nobles matching the description of the ones Sebastian is
searching for. They tell the party which way the nobles were dragged off and the
party heads that way. The new mage and Veit try to put the fire on the stair out,
Veit starts casting ‘create water’ while the mage casts a cold spell. His spell goes
off first and causes an explosion. Veit catches on fire and one of the other new
guys, a not so intelligent half-orc, tries to put him out by running into him. They
both fall down the stairs getting covered in grease and fire. At the end of the
stairs is a portcullis with spikes protruding. The h-orc falls into the spikes first and
Veit slams into him. After putting out the flames and taking some healing
potions, the h-orc finds a lever. He pulls the lever which lifts the portcullis and
Sebastian gets to the bottom of the stairs. He goes to attack the h-orc for
harming Veit but Veit stops him saying the h-orc helped him. The three head to
the other side of the portcullis and the h-orc pulls the lever again before either
Veit or Sebastian can stop him. The rest of the group gets to the bottom and all
get back together. The H-orc and Veit are pretty burned and they are escorted
back to the temples in Sharn by Vaelis.
