Why Audit the Federal
Reserve?
The Federal Reserve (aka “The Fed”), the unelected central bank of the United
States, enjoys a monopoly over the flow of our money and credit but has never been
completely transparent and accountable to Congress since its creation in 1913.
Since 1913, our dollar has lost more than 95% of its purchasing power.
In addition to an over $11.3 trillion national debt (with each American’s share being
over $37,000) and over $57.8 trillion in unfunded liabilities (like Medicare, Social
Security; with each American’s share being almost $189,000!), Congress, The
Treasury, and The Federal Reserve have put taxpayers on the hook for almost $13
trillion in loans and bailouts.
Yet, the Federal Reserve refuses to tell Congress which financial institutions have
received these funds.
What can we do? AUDIT THE FED!
Current Legislation in the senate – s 604 – would require a full audit of the Federal Reserve,
removing current restrictions on how the government accountability office (GAO) can audit
the fed.
This legislation would require the gao to finish its audit of the fed by 2010 and report its
findings to congress. Finally, the Federal Reserve would have congressional oversight.
