Foursight Theatre in a co-production with Warwick Arts Centre presents
THATCHER THE MUSICAL!
UK TOUR 2006
OCTOBER – NOVEMBER 2006
The rise and fall of Margaret Thatcher – a show for our times!
Foursight Theatre’s smash hit musical played to packed houses and standing ovations when
it opened at Warwick Arts Centre earlier this year. Suddenly its historic tale of Thatcher’s
rise to glory and her fall from power seems uncannily topical and major theatres throughout
the country are ever more keen to put the show on at their venues. So its first national tour
opens at The Lowry, Salford on 3rd October.
The show chronicles the life and times of Baroness Margaret Hilda Thatcher. From
Parliamentary battles to the Falklands War, from the miners' strike to the knife in the back.
A multi-talented cast of no less than 9 Thatchers sing and dance their way through show-stopping
song and dance numbers such as: The Cabinet Shuffle, The Tory Blues and the love song: It
Was Surely Purely Chemistry. They uncover the impact Britain's first female Prime Minister had
on the world, on British society and on all of us. Funny, fiercely topical and sometimes even
poignant, Thatcher The Musical explodes the political and the personal and reveals the contents
of the most famous handbag in history with hilarious results.
Foursight Theatre is renowned for its passionate, physical and highly original productions,
which blend themes and emotions together in a feast of provocative entertainment.
Previous shows have included Boadicea, Hecuba and Six Dead Queens and an Inflatable
Henry ! This is the first time they’ve tackled the story of a living legend.
Directed by Naomi Cooke and Deb Barnard MBE, with original songs by Jill Dowse, arranged
by Mary Keith, the tour begins on 3rd October at The Lowry in Salford and continues at
major theatres across the country, ending at The West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds on 18 th
November. After a Christmas break it re-opens at its home theatre – The Grand Theatre
Wolverhampton and on to Hereford, Newcastle and Ipswich.
Director Naomi Cooke comments:
“ Whatever your politics the Thatcher era was a fascinating period of political history. Love
her or hate her, her influence continues to resonate in our lives today. The current events
around Blair’s regime show uncanny parallels.“
