Shopping Cart Signs
Overview
For the past year, Sales & Marketing has been testing an initiative that features

advertising on Large LCBO Shopping Carts. The test has gone well. As a result of
positive feedback from Pilot Stores, as well as keen interest from the trade to purchase
the space, Sales & Marketing will roll out this program to an additional 138 stores. The
information regarding the number of Large Shopping Carts your store presently has, was
N
compiled from a survey we completed this past Spring. Small carts will not feature this
program. Eventually, all new large carts will feature this ad frame and additional stores
may be added to the program.

The program will officially be sold to the trade each period, effective PT9 – Holiday 2011.
The program will feature either an LTO or a BAM offer each period and the products

advertised will be brands with wide distribution, to ensure that what’s advertised will
be available in your location. Instructions for each promotional turn will appear in the
Marketing & Product Guide. The inside of the cart will always feature the sold supplier
program and the outside will always be reserved for Social Responsibility messaging.

As of October 13, installers will be visiting the participating stores to install frames
and temporary signs. Effective P9, the program is sold to the trade and participation is
mandatory for stores who receive the frames.

The SR sign is bilingual. The supplier sign is in English only. Signs are to be installed by
the start of the promotion.

Since the introduction of the promotional display component to the Mini Thematic, there

has been some confusion surrounding the program details. The following updated details
clarify the program requirements.
The cost of the current Mini Thematic program to suppliers includes a promotional fixture

brochure OR FSI, as well as in-section shelf talkers to highlight the featured products. Last
year, in an effort to increase the profile/presence of the featured products, the LCBO decided
to re-purpose the Promotional Fixture to highlight the participating products. This display
O
space is not included in the cost of the program. Alternatively, the LCBO has decided
to utilize this space to drive incremental sales for segments of the business that may not
warrant fully dedicated promotional thematics. Brands featured as part of the mini-thematic
continue to see a large sales lift.
The following applies:

• The mini-thematic brochures feature 8 – 12 brands (which vary by thematic). To

support the sales and marketing strategy, it is recommended to feature all SKUs
participating in the program.

If bringing in all participating products is not conducive to your individual store, the
following guidelines must be met:

• The Promotional Fixture must be fully merchandised at all times. This may mean
increasing the number of cases per SKU or increasing the number of SKUS brought
in for the promotion.

• A minimum of 6 brands must be featured to ensure a healthy looking display that is
ready-for-business.
• Featured products are not force-allocated.
• If a featured product is currently carried by your store, additional stock is to be

ordered to support the secondary display space on the Promotional Fixture.
• If a store is bringing in a featured product to support the Promotional Fixture
Program, the 1-in/1-out rule does not apply during the promotional period.
• If a store decides to list a featured product AFTER the promotional period has
concluded, the 1-in/1-out rule does apply.

distribution to larger stores will occur in 2 waves. The

objective is to get some copies to all stores prior to the in-
store date. Smaller stores will receive all their allotment
and larger stores should receive a portion of their allotment

Managers will be provided with a listing of all store allocations, indicating how many

The new Nesting Table Map is used for all of the Nesting Table

The products have been selected by Category Management and
arranged by Visual Merchandising according to the “like-with-

For each Nesting Table, please order two or three cases of each of the 12-18 participating
products.

The Store Manager may modify product selections, based on customer buying patterns and
demographics but alternative products should match the theme.

Product Placement
Avoid spreading products over the entire table.
Too many facings of the same product will make the display seem cluttered, dulling the impact of

the products being promoted.
By following the basic principle of “like product with like product”, you will accomplish a
themed, fully stocked and customer-friendly fixture.
Remember to consider the colour, size and type when building your display.
Placing complementary colours next to each other also enhances the look of the display. Items on
the Display Tables should not “compete” with each other.
