Movie Review
Mama Mia! It’s great!
My mom kept asking me,
“Did you see it yet?” I still hadn’t. I switched on the TV one night and decided to
watch a movie. ‘Mama Mia!’ was on and I thought it would be the perfect time to watch
it. My mom wanted me to see it and it was apparently very good. As it got more and
more into it I was hooked. It was a really great movie! It was a fun musical and very
funny. I didn’t like the ending very much because it wasn’t believable. But, for the most
part, this was a great story.
Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is engaged and just about to get married, but she has to
have someone give her away at her wedding. Her mother, Donna, (Merryl Streep) raised
her alone and Sophie has no idea who her real father is. She sneaks into her mom’s diary
and finds out that there are three possible fathers! Not knowing which one it is she invites
them all. Sam (Pierse Brosnan), Harry (Collin Firth) and Bill (Stellan Skarsgärd) all
arrive, much to Sophie’s disbelief, and she doesn’t know who it is. This puts her in a
position that she doesn’t know how to deal with and things soon go out of control. Set in
the islands of Greece, the sets and backdrops are beautiful.
Amanda Seyfried does a great job showing the stress that Sophie is put under. She
really gets into character. On the whole, all of the actors are great and do very well
showing their character. The characters’ personalities are very strong and the actors do a
great job portraying that. The actors are for the most part all very experienced and it
really shows in how well they did in their acting. None of them are singers but they all do
a great job in all of the songs. The songs are lively and fun and, especially Merryl Streep,
they all capture that when singing.
I enjoyed this movie a lot. It was very funny and not too serious. It had some very
original jokes. There was one scene where Sophie’s fiancé’s friends all started singing
and dancing while wearing swim trunks and flippers. I thought that it was absolutely
hilarious. This was something that you could understand easily and doesn’t leave you
wandering about if that character was mixed up with it or at that point were they at their
own home or not. The ending was funny and not confusing at all. Overall, it was good for
a laugh. The one thing that I didn’t like about it was the ending. It was not very
believable and a bit too expected. Other than that, it was really quite good.
There was definitely a moral to this story, although it’s hard to put into words.
What I guess it is, is that sometimes when you want to find something out really badly,
it’s good to wait because if you don’t, you might find out that actually, you didn’t want to
know. That is a little bit wordy so to put it simply, sometimes, it’s good to be patient to
find something out.
This movie is for people who love happy, funny musicals that still have a good
story line. For people who don’t like having to think too much to understand the ending. I
would recommend it too anyone really. It is PG-13 however, so maybe not too anyone
young kids. I think the rating is appropriate because I’m sure that it might be
inappropriate for some younger children. Overall, I really liked this movie.
I would give this movie a nine out of ten. Every aspect of it was great, except for
the ending. It really was a fun movie and great for a Saturday evening.
