City After-School Program
Extends Registration
LAS CRUCES – Registration for the City of Las Cruces’ after-school program will continue
until the program is full (60 students) at each of
its six participating LCPS elementary school
sites, said Program Coordinator (and retired
teacher) Marcel Nicolitz. The program is for
students in grades K-five.
Parents can register their children at
Meerscheidt Recreation Center, 1600 E. Hadley
Ave., 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday until each program is full. The cost is $246 per
semester. The fall 2010 program begins August 16 and continues through December 16.
The program will run 2:30-5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, at Alameda, Conlee, Hermosa
Heights, Fairacres, Highland and Monte Vista elementary schools (street addresses are at the
bottom of this news release).
The program includes recreational activities, a healthy snack and help with homework.
From the after-school program handbook:
“Participants … will be exposed to a variety of enrichment activities such as dancing, art,
cultural/ethnic activities, safety awareness, citizenship, engineering and science projects and
many more stimulating activities.”
“I am a retired teacher, and run the program much like a classroom, with very concrete
guidelines and expectations – most importantly, safety and fun,” said Nicolitz.
