Kaiser Permanente
2006 Partnership in Health Production, Distribution and Presentation Plan
The Partnership in Health Report
The Partnership in Health (PIH) report is a customer-specific clinical data information tool. It is designed to
help Account Managers and sales staff demonstrate Kaiser Permanente’s value to customers with more than
1,000 members enrolled in a KP health plan. The PIH report provides an opportunity for our sales and
account management staff to engage with customers outside of the renewal process. The process for
production, review and distribution of the PIH reports is as follows:
I. PIH Report Production
(A) Report Requests
Report requests are made by Account Managers through regional Report Coordinators. 2006 report
requests were solicited in September 2005 by the PIH work group. New requests for reports may be
made at any time by contacting your Report Coordinator. Requests are evaluated for group size by
the PIH work group. Reports are not produced for groups with less than 1,000 KP members.
(B) Setting Priority Levels
When requesting a report, Account Managers indicate the priority level (1-4, with 1 being the most
urgent) of each report. Account Managers are responsible for communicating with their Report
Coordinators if the priority level of a report changes during the report production process.
II. Data Quality Review
(A) Groups and Subgroups
Data for the PIH report comes from multiple sources, including: MIA, CMI, DSS and Pricing. Data is
analyzed for quality and validated over a period of several months. Discrepancies involving group and
subgroup numbers are communicated to Account Managers for resolution.
(B) Physician Quality Review
Each PIH report is reviewed by a physician who studies the clinical data for customer groups. Once a
physician has reviewed the report and returned comments to the PIH work group, the PIH report and
all appropriate information are forwarded to the Report Coordinators.
III. Distribution Schedule for 2006 PIH Reports
Report Coordinators will distribute the PIH reports to Account Managers once they are released by the
PIH work group. Report Coordinators are responsible for communicating physician notes and other
group-specific information from the PIH production team to Account Managers. For a list of accounts
and priority levels for 2006 PIH reports, see Appendix 6. (This list reflects requests that were received
st
by December 1 , 2005.)

* Please note: All priority 1 reports involving data from the Northwest will be delayed by two to three
weeks due to the unique Northwest data development process.
IV. Account Manager Responsibilities
Account Managers play a fundamental role in identifying data that customers will want explained
and in ensuring consistency in the messages delivered to our accounts.
(A) Group-specific Information Input – slides 1, 2, and 6
Page 1 12/20/05
Kaiser Permanente
2006 Partnership in Health Production, Distribution and Presentation Plan
After receiving the group specific PIH report, Account Managers are responsible for filling in
information on slides 1, 2, and 6 (see worksheets in Appendices 2 and 3).
(B) Review for consistency
Account Managers should review the report for consistency with data previously delivered to the
customer. Account Managers are asked to share the report with the account’s underwriter before
presentation.
V. PIH Report – the Employer Presentation
(A) PIH Document format:
The PIH report should not be e-mailed to customers.
The PIH report should not be copied into PowerPoint.
In both of these cases, Account Managers may run a risk of affecting the data and its format.
An e-mail template is available on the PIH training website (http://www.pihtraining.org) for
customer communication regarding the PIH report. See also Appendix 4.
(B) Preparation for Interaction with customer groups:
Reports should be presented in person to customers and generate face-to-face conversation.
Allow enough time for discussion. The PIH report presentation will take at least 1 hour. If
possible, it is preferable to have 1.5 – 2 hours for presentation.
The PIH report is designed to be flexible; presenters may choose what is most relevant to the
specific interests of the purchaser. For example, Account Managers could present only those
slides pertaining to diabetes or asthma if other factors were not strong drivers of group costs.
It is important to spend time reviewing the material and notes document before presentation.
Physicians in each region are available to help present the report and field questions (see
Appendix 1 for contact information).
V. Questions and Key Contacts (see Appendix 1 for a list of Names and Numbers):
