MAUI JIM® SUNGLASSES CATERS TO ASIA PACIFIC TASTES

The marketing team at Maui Jim Sunglasses is putting the finishing touches to
an exciting new collection of eyewear designed specifically to suit the face
shapes of Asian people following new orders from key retailers.
The „Asian-fit‟ collection combines their unique patented polarised lens
technology, PolarizedPlus®, with sunglasses shapes which appeal to consumers
in Japan, China, Malaysia, the Philippines and elsewhere in Asia.
The US-based brand has already made substantial inroads to Asian markets
following successful appearances at TFWA Asia Pacific 2006 and TFWA World
Exhibition in October when they launched the „Lagoon‟, the „Pono‟ and the „Oasis‟
from the Classic collection.
They have signed new contracts with key outlets such as Suvarnabhumi Airport
in Bangkok partnered with King Power, Singapore Changi Airport with the
Valiram Group and with Nuance at Brisbane Airport in Australia.
Maui Jim is already enjoying the fruits of a strong partnership with DFS and is in
negotiation currently with several major airlines regarding listings in their inflight
catalogues.
Giles Marks, Maui Jim Director Duty Free Sales, commented, “We have
observed how our Asian client base in the US and tourists arriving from Japan,
Hong Kong and other parts of Asia find that certain styles are more comfortable
to wear than others. Building on that we have developed a special collection
which will be previewed at IAADFS Duty Free Show of the Americas in April and
unveiled fully at TFWA Asia Pacific in Singapore this May.”
Maui Jim Sunglasses believes it is vital to get close to its target customers and in
addition to Giles who focuses on Asian, North American and Latin American
markets, the company recently appointed Martine Larroque as Duty Free
Manager Europe and the Middle East and hopes to announce an Asian specialist
shortly.
