1. mournful - ADJ If you are mournful, you are very sad. He looked mournful, even near
to tears. ⋄ mournfully ADV He stood mournfully at the gate waving bye bye.
2. sympathy - N If you have sympathy for someone who has had a misfortune, you are
sorry for them, and show this in the way you behave towards them. We expressed
our sympathy for her loss; If you have sympathy with someone's ideas or opinions, you
agree with them. I have some sympathy with this point of view.
3. shriek – V If you shriek, you give a sudden loud scream, called a shriek. She shrieked
and leapt from the bed...; `Stop it! Stop it!' shrieked Jane...; Sue let out a terrific shriek.
4. decency – N Decency is behavior which follows accepted moral standards. His sense
of decency forced him to resign...; No-one had the decency to tell me to my face.
5. evidence – N Evidence is anything that makes you believe that something is true or
exists. There is no evidence to support the idea that he committed this crime
6. conflict – N Conflict is serious disagreement and argument. If two people or groups
are in conflict, they have had a serious disagreement and have not yet reached
agreement; on opposite sides
7. motivaton – N Your motivation for doing something is what causes you to want to do
it. The prime motivation is usually money.
8. ambition – N If you have an ambition to achieve something, you want very much to
achieve it. His ambition is to sail round the world; Ambition is the desire to be
successful, rich, or powerful.
9. influence – N Influence is the power to make other people agree with your opinions
or make them do what you want.
10.generous - ADJ J A generous person gives more of something, especially money,
than is usual or expected. She made a generous contribution to children’s charity.
