The Mission of Scouting
It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America to
prepare young people to make ethical choices
throughout their life, and to help them achieve their
full potential. We provide character education for the
next generation of Silicon Valley Leaders.

About Your Council
In order to provide the best Scouting program possible, the Santa Clara
County Council provides support to the overall Scouting mission.
The Santa Clara County Council provides support
for:
10,000 youth members in packs, troops, and crews
Nearly 16,000 youth including Learning for Life
4,000 Adult Members.
417 Units.
In 2008, Scouts in our council:
Gave over 200,000 hours of community service.
Earned 279 Eagle Scout Awards.
Services Your Council Provides
Boy Scout and Cub Scout Resident Camp, Cub Scout Day Camp, Webelos
overnighters, camporees, Scouting for Food, community service projects, recognition
dinners, etc.
Program equipment including: canoes, boats, rifles, archery equipment, and
cooking/camping equipment.
Insurance and Liability Coverage for all adults and youth participating in Scouting.
A Council Service Center where awards, program materials, training records and
publications are available to youth and adults.
Training aids, visual aid equipment, and literature for use in training adults and youth
leaders.
Services Your Council Provides
A trained professional staff provides guidance and support to our Units and helps
organize Scouting units, train leaders and develop programs.
Office personnel who maintain records, handle registrations and help leaders receive
materials and awards.
Recognition – various awards for youth and leader achievement.
Council publications: The Activity Guide and an on-line council newsletter, the
Santa Clarion, etc. communicates to leaders on all programs and activities.
Roundtables, training courses, seminars, conferences, commissioner’s meetings,
board meetings, and committee meetings all geared to help a unit carry out its
program for youth.
You Should Know That
The Santa Clara County Council…
Receives no federal funding.
Receives no National BSA funding.
Receives no United Way Funding.
Raises 100% of its dollars locally.
Uses all of the dollars raised to support youth in our
community.

Cost of supporting one boy in Scouting is $275.00 per year.
We’re asking for $275.00 per boy (and more if you can afford it)

For Every 100 Boys who join the Boy Scouts:
