Hello Access to Curriculum List Service (ACLS) Members ,
Access to Curriculum List Service: ACLS is designed to provide information and resources to special education
directors, coordinators, specialists, educators, and support personnel who are serving students who rely on
specialized media to access the core curriculum. ACLS will enable educators to ask and answer questions of
colleagues to address special needs of the students they serve. ACLS operates within the California Department of
Education; Curriculum and Frameworks Instructional Resources Division; Clearinghouse for Specialized Media and
Translations (CSMT) Unit.
Membership: To qualify as a member of the ACLS we need verification that you currently work with students with
disabilities. Membership forms can be copied from this notice. If you have any questions, please contact Steve Yee,
916.445.1843, syee@cde.ca.gov.
Update information: We want to keep people in the field informed. You will receive monthly updates on new
materials, new technology and opportunities to provide better access to your students. An annual spring ACLS
update will confirm or change information on your account. If staffing changes occur mid-year, please inform new
staff of this service. If you choose to end participation in the ACLS at any time, please send an email with the words,
“remove me” to syee@cde.ca.gov.
Sharing Material with Educators: Materials can be shared through a free delivery service, “Free Matter for the
Blind or Handicapped” offered by the United States Post Service (USPS). This free mailing allows the exchange of
materials such as books, tapes, CDs or other educational materials between professionals working with students
who need access to varied formats due to print disabilities. The service was originally designed for transporting
braille materials, but the USPS has extended the privilege to other print disabilities Click on this link at;
http://www.rehabtech.com/Resource/Library/FreeMatter.htm to find more information about qualifying for this
service.
Adopted Curriculum Materials: CSMT provides K-8 materials adopted by the State School Board into formats
accessible to qualified students with disabilities. These books are available through our Instructional Materials
Ordering Distribution System (IMODS), at; http://csmt.cde.ca.gov . Materials for high school are adopted locally in
California. To provide these texts and workbooks we have reimbursement program. CSMT helps local high school
educational agencies pay for braille and large print books that are adopted locally in California. To find out more
about the reimbursement programs use this link above.
IMODS Ordering: The ACLS will also help educators learn about CSMT's Instructional Materials and Ordering
Distribution System (IMODS). IMODS is a free service for educators serving students with disabilities in California
public schools. To become a registered IMODS user, visit CSMT's Web site at http://csmt.cde.ca.gov. Click on New

Parker at CSMT, 1430 N Street, Sacramento, CA 95814. Steve will send you a password within a few days.

Talking Books (DTB) and e-Text formats. These files transfer to CD burners. Files can be download to a personal
