Pennies for Promise is a simple, yet innovative idea. It is a payroll giving scheme that

allows an employee to make a donation to a charity directly from their net pay. The

employee’s net pay is rounded down to the nearest pound, and the remaining pennies are

donated to a charity of their choice.

Pennies for Promise is an easy to implement scheme, that can provide your charity with a

regular donation stream, allowing you to fund your charitable goals. The scheme is

carefully designed to ensure that 100% of donations go to employee nominated charities.

How does it work?

“Pennies for promise” is a simple idea. When an employee receives their net pay (their

‘take-home’ pay after tax deductions) we will round the amount down to the nearest

pound. The pennies that are left over are then deducted and sent to a charity of their

choice.

Their small donation of a few pennies each month is part of a large collective donation. If

everyone within a company registers for the scheme, the collective amount of pennies

donated will make a significant difference to the charities receiving it.

For example:

Sarah has a net pay of £1783.57. We will round it down to the nearest pound, deducting

23 pence from her net pay, leaving Sarah with £1783.00, the deducted 57 pence will be

donated to her chosen charity. As you can see below, a deduction for ‘Pennies for

Promise’ will appear on her pay-slip to reflect this.

How do we receive the donations?

The deducted pennies are stored by Pennies for Promise and distributed to the charities

selected by each employee twice a year. This biannual payment reduces administrative

burden for your charity, and Pennies for Promise. Payment is made by BACS and any

accumulated bank interest for the six month period is shared proportionately to the

recipient charities.

What are the benefits for our charity?

Pennies for Promise is a simple, easy to setup scheme that allows employees to make

regular donations to charities directly from their net pay. The funds are deducted and

distributed to nominated charities, with minimal administrative burden. The scheme is an

support at no cost.

A summary of the benefits for your charity:

looking to support charitable causes

• Administration free, money transferred by BACS to

How do employees choose a charity?

Each employer may shortlist up to a maximum of three charities for their employees to

select from.

This shortlist is made from the charities registered with us and promoted by Pennies for

Promise, and charities desired by the employer. By registering with Pennies for Promise

we can help sell your message and cause to employers looking for charities to shortlist.

From an organisational shortlist of up to three charities, each participating employee may

select one charity to support.

How can we promote our cause to employees who are looking to support a charity?

We have a dedicated section of our website where you can write a short biography - up to

a maximum of one hundred words – and upload your logo. A hyperlink can be added to

your logo, linking viewers to your website for further information about your cause.

Additionally, we will promote your charity on your behalf to employers and employees

joining Pennies for Promise.

How much of the donated funds will you actually receive?

Unlike other payroll giving schemes, we stand apart from the crowd by guaranteeing the

100% of donated funds go directly to charity.

Our company, activpayroll, donates the administrative time and support to ensure that the

scheme works, ensuring that 100% of the donations to go directly to nominated charities.

Can employees give more?

Pennies for Promise is designed to collect the remaining pennies from an employees net

pay each month, so that they don’t really notice a reduction in their pay. Making a regular

donation affordable for all.

However, if they wish to, they can choose to donate more. Some people choose to donate

£5, £10, £20 etc a month. If an employee would like to donate more they can indicate so

when they register for the scheme.

Can you claim Gift Aid?

Yes, providing the donor is a UK taxpayer you can claim gift aid on donations, boosting

your funds by up to 25%. We have a process in place to distribute and collate gift aid

forms on your behalf, making it simple. We’ll just hand the completed forms to you for your

records.

Can Pennies for Promise distribute advertorial content on your behalf to our

participating employees?

Due to the vast amount of requests we get from charities around the world, we are unable

to forward your communications to registered employees. You are however, given email

addresses of employees who have specifically indicated that they wish to be contacted

during their registration process, allowing you to communicate directly yourself.

What do we require of you?

• A six monthly receipt of donations that we can pass on to each employer

• A six monthly report (Approx 100 words) of what the funds have been used for

• The ability to use your logo on our website PenniesforPromise.com to promote your

cause
