PEACE
Who shall be peace?
Flow then like the gentle rhythm
Of a silent brook from the fountain of God.
Shower onto our hearts
And pump through our veins.
Who shall be peace?
And like the measured footsteps of a patient child
Lead mankind up the crest of calm?
Who shall be peace?
So we can ask for a hand in marriage
And finally be one?
Where shall we find peace?
Is it in the guns and bombs that we make?
Or families and homes that they break?
What colour is peace?
Is it black or white?
Has peace any race?
Is it a thought among myriads we can never trace?
Is peace a dream
Stolen from our future
And hidden in our past?
Is peace a speck of sand
In our dust-filled memories?
Is peace the war we fought yesterday?
Is peace the burial of the warlord today?
I know what peace is,
It’s a map that leads hate astray
I know that map is in me,
I am peace.
