1. Model fraction by using the ten popsicle sticks, showing 2/10 , then 5/10 ,

then 7/10 then show the relating decimal. Which decimal is the largest?

Launch

Write the order of decimals on board.

Model how to write the decimal 0.7 or 7 tenths on the place value chart.



2. Students then label each dot on the number line. Teacher can put a

number line on the board and use sticky notes for the students to place the

numbers on the board number line.

3. Teacher dictates decimals for students to write in the place value chart.

Explore

(Use decimals with a whole number, i.e., 4.76 and common decimals (¼, ½,

¾, 2 ½,)). They give reasons for its placement. Compare 2 decimals at a

time. Which one is larger? Why?

Given 1.45, 1 2/10, ½, 2 21/100, students will independently read, write,

and add them on the number line.
