Schneider Electric introduces the new generation of Merten ARGUS
smoke detectors in the Basic, Basic Longlife, 230 V, Connect and 230 V
Connect versions.
The "Smoke detectors save lives" campaign, launched in 2008, is only one of the reasons
for the increase in the number of smoke detectors in private homes. P.e.: Only seven of the
16 German federal states have adopted smoke detector laws. Many end users, whether in
private homes or the commercial area, are still unaware of the deadly risk of smoke
inhalation and toxic gases triggered by smouldering or a fire. They require the expert advice
of an electrician and innovative products that combine the highest level of safety and
security with convenience.
The Schneider Electric company has extended the ARGUS smoke detector family and
now offer five models: Basic, Basic Longlife, 230 V, Connect and Connect 230 V.
>>Features of all Schneider Electric smoke detectors:
- They fulfil the strictest test standards for domestic smoke detectors and have VdS
approval.
- All smoke detectors monitor via the "Tyndall effect", the scattered light principle.
When smoke penetrates the measuring chamber, a warning tone that cannot be
overheard (minimum 85 db(A)) sounds.
- A test button can be pushed at any time to check whether the smoke detector is
functioning properly.
- An acoustic signal and flashing LED every 45 seconds for a maximum of 30 days
indicate that the ARGUS smoke detector has a low battery.
The scope of delivery of each smoke detector contains comprehensive installation
material.
- Due to the variety of installation options the central screw/mounting base
combination provides, all ARGUS smoke detectors can be installed quickly, thus
saving time.
ARGUS Basic smoke detector
The ARGUS Basic smoke detector in polar white is an economical version for first-
time users. Its attractive design is at home in every private interior.
>Additional features of the ARGUS Basic smoke detector:
- The single device is VdS-approved in compliance with EN 14604.
- It is powered by a 9 V battery, contained in the scope of delivery, whose service life
is approx. three years.
The ARGUS Basic Longlife smoke detector comes with a lithium battery (9 V LI
battery), that extends the maintenance interval to approx. 10 years due to its long
service life.
ARGUS 230 V smoke detector
In addition to the features of the Basic, the ARGUS 230 V smoke detector in polar white
and aluminium offers a 230 V power supply. It is the ideal solution for a new, single-family
home.
>Additional features of the ARGUS 230 V smoke detector:
- It can be installed either on a flush-mounted box or a surface-mounted installation
base that is included in the scope of delivery. Here, combining the flush-mounted
box with the installation base is an advantage: since the 230 V technology is
integrated in the flush-mounted box, the smoke detector retains its innocuous, flat
optical effect.
- The device can by powered by mains supply or battery.The smoke detector is
always active and offers safety and security every second of the day, even when
there is a power failure.
- A multi-coloured LED on the device displays its current working status (mains
operation, battery operation, or alarm).
- When the smoke detectors are networked together, they will all begin to signal an
alarm as soon as one has detected smoke – some reassuring life insurance.
ARGUS Connect smoke detector
The battery-operated ARGUS Connect smoke detector can access a radio system on
the reliable 868.3 MHz frequency. The Connect smoke detector is available in polar
white and aluminium. This product is especially suitable for retrofitting an existing
single-family home, for example.
>Additional features of the ARGUS Connect smoke detector:
- Networking via radio or 2-wire technology
- The smoke detector with the standard features: acoustic warning tone (85 db(A))
when smoke is developing, malfunctions occur or a battery needs changing, LED,
self-check and test button.
- Up to 40 smoke detectors can be networked via wire, and up to 10 smoke detectors
in one radio cell via radio. Thus, ARGUS Connect smoke detectors are a solutions
for flats with many rooms or multi-storey buildings.
ARGUS Connect 230 V smoke detector
The ARGUS Connect 230 V smoke detector includes the same properties as the
ARGUS Connect smoke detector. However, the smoke detectors are networked via a
free core in the 230 V network. Both colour options, polar white and aluminium are
available. This solution is ideal for both single-family homes and new buildings.
>Additional features of the ARGUS 230 V smoke detector:
- No additional network cables are required thanks to the free core in the 230 V
network. Planning is easy since the additional core in the cable can already be
provided.
- This smoke detector requires almost no maintenance since it is protected from
power failure by a supplementary 9 V battery.
