Mircea Lucescu
Mircea Lucescu (born July 29, 1945, in Bucharest) is a former Romanian footballplayer
and current coach, and one of the most successful Romanian football managers. He is
also the father of Romania coach, Răzvan Lucescu. He is currently managing Ukrainian
side Shakhtar Donetsk with whom he won the UEFA Cup 2008-09.
Gheorghe Hagi

Gheorghe Hagi (Romanian pronunciation: [ˈɡeorɡe ˈhadʒi]; born February 5, 1965

in Săcele), is a former Romanian football player. He was famous for his passing, close
control, long shots and was regarded as one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe
during the 1980s and 1990s. Galatasaray fans called him 'Commandante'(The
Commander) [1]
Nicknamed "The Maradona of the Carpathians", he is considered a hero in his homeland as
well as in Turkey. He has won his country's "Player of the Year" award six times, and is
regarded as one of the best football players of the 20th century.[2][3]
He played for the Romanian national team in three World Cups in 1990, 1994 and 1998, as
well as in three European Football Championships in 1984, 1996 and 2000. He won a total
of 125 caps for Romania, being ranked second after Dorinel Munteanu, and scored 35
goals, being ranked first.
In November 2003, to celebrate UEFA's Jubilee, he was selected as the Golden Player of
Romania by the Romanian Football Federation as their most outstanding player of the past
50 years.[4] Hagi is one of the few footballers to have played for both the Spanish rival
clubs Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
In March 2004, he was named among the top 125 living footballers by Pelé.
In a 2006 poll conducted by Romanian Television to identify the "greatest Romanians of all
time", Hagi came in 15th.
Ilie Năstase
Ilie Năstase (Romanian pronunciation: [iˈli.e nəsˈtase],
born July 19, 1946, in Bucharest,Romania) is
a Romanian former professional tennis player, one of the
world's top players of the 1970s. Năstase was the World No.
1 tennis player between 1973 (August 23) and 1974 (June 2).
He is one of the five players in history to win more than
100 ATP professional titles (57 singles and 45 in
doubles).[2] He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall
of Famein 1991. Năstase won seven Grand Slam titles: two in
singles, three in men's doubles, and two in mixed doubles. He
also won four ATP World Tour Finals championships. In
2005,Tennis magazine ranked him as the 28th-best player of
the preceding forty years. He is the second male player to win
a Grand Slam without dropping a set and the first one to
achieve this feat at French Open (1973).
Nadia Elena Comăneci
Nadia Elena Comăneci (Romanian pronunciation: [ˈnadi.a koməˈnetʃʲ]; ͡
born November 12, 1961) is a Romanian gymnast, winner of
three Olympic gold medals at the 1976 Summer Olympics, and the first
gymnast ever to be awarded a perfect score of 10 in an Olympic gymnastic
event. She is also the winner of two gold medals at the 1980 Summer
Olympics. She is one of the best-known gymnasts in the world .[1][2][3] In
2000 Comăneci was named as one of the athletes of the century by
the Laureus World Sports Academy.
Adrian Mutu
Adrian Mutu (born 8 January 1979) is a Romanian footballer who plays as
a striker for Italian Serie A club Fiorentina, and the Romanian national
team.
Mutu scored Romania's only goal of Euro 2008 in the 55th minute of
their second match against Italy, however in the same match he had a
second-half penalty saved by Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, which
could have sent Italy out of the competition and would have guaranteed
Romania a spot in the quarter finals. The game finished 1–1.
Cristian Eugen Chivu
Cristian Eugen Chivu (Romanian pronunciation: [kristiˈan ˈkivu]) (born
26 October 1980 inReşiţa) is a Romanian footballer. He is the captain of
the Romanian national team and currently plays for Internazionale of the
Italian Serie A. He usually plays as a left back but can play as a center back
as well as in defensive midfield when needed.
Simona Amânar
Simona Amânar (born October 7, 1979 in Constanţa) is
a Romanian gymnast. She is a seven-time Olympic medalist and a ten-time
world medalist. Amânar helpedRomania to win four consecutive world team
titles (1994–1999) as well as the 2000 Olympic team title. She has a vault
named after her, the Amanar. She was inducted into the International
Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2007.[1]
