Tim Bennett (LLB, TEP, Solicitor) is Chief Executive of The Belgrave Group,
with offices in Hong Kong, Switzerland and Mauritius. Tim received his Bachelor
of Laws from London University (London School of Economics) and his Master
of Laws (Licence Spéciale en Droit Européenne) from the University of Brussels.
His professional experience includes professional practice as a Solicitor (with
Clifford-Chance) and as a Tax consultant, and also working as Legal Counsel and
Director for leading international banking and trust groups around the world
including Bank of Bermuda and Bank of America, and being resident at different
periods in Bermuda, Hong Kong, Luxembourg, London, Guernsey, Switzerland
and Mauritius. Tim has 25+ years of experience in the international tax & private
client field.
Tim is author of International Initiatives Affecting Financial Havens, a topical
publication of Butterworth/Tolleys now in its 2nd Edition: this analyses and
reports on the various threats faced by the international private wealth industry and
the offshore financial centres, and includes detailed chapters on exchange of
information and the latest anti money laundering rules.
Tim has also recently published the second edition of his textbook on Money-
Laundering Prevention. He is also an Editor of Spitz & Clarke's Offshore Service
published by Lexis-Nexis Butterworth-Tolleys
Tim is active within the international trust and estate tax planning profession. He
was a founder member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (“STEP”),
its Deputy-Chairman from 1994 to 1997, and its International Committee
Chairman from 1991 to 2000. He is also a regular conference and seminar speaker
on diverse topics related to the international private client and trust fields.
