There are many examples of successful engineering entrepreneurs such as:
James Dyson  inventor of the dual cyclone bagless vacuum cleaner

Clive Sinclair  inventor of the world’s first slim line calculator

Mary Anderson (1866–1953)  was a real estate developer, rancher, viticulturist
and inventor of the windshield wiper blade. In November 1903 Anderson was
granted her first patent[2] for an automatic car window cleaning device controlled
inside the car, called the windshield wiper.

Jack St. Clair Kilby (November 8, 1923 - June 20, 2005) was a Nobel Prize laureate in
physics in 2000 for his invention of the integrated circuit in 1958 while working at
Texas Instruments (TI). He is also the inventor of the handheld calculator and
thermal printer.

Ada Lovelace  computer science

Jacqueline Barton  The primary focus of her research is transverse electron
transport along double-stranded DNA, its implications in the biology of DNA damage
and repair, and its potential for materials sciences applications. She is married to
fellow Caltech chemist Peter Dervan.
