Repete failures of the audio amplifer
SYMPTOMS
We are having a continuing problem with the RA-2 chassis models. We
get a no audio situation and find the Audio Amp TA8216H (IC404) shorted
and PS401 open. We replace both components and the unit works fine for
anywhere from 3 to 6 months.
RESOLUTION
You assistance is need to obtain the necessary information to find the
solution to this failure.. Please contact yourTech Rep with the information
required below.
The Vcc of audio amp may be higher than expected.
Vcc is provided from PIT but no regulator in this line so the voltage varies
by a variation of PIT winding. To verify that we want to know the voltage of
Vcc.
Please measure the voltage between pin 9(Vcc) and pin 3(GND) of IC404.
It's supposed to be around 30V. If our assumption is correct then
additional diode in Vcc line will help an IC404 failure. Design will
determine type of diode and the location of the insertion with the
information supplied from the servicers.

The original Focus Block is no longer available.
RESOLUTION
If the Focus Block should need to be replaced the new sub P/N 1-223-
925-31 should be used. The wire connections will be difference. See the
diagram below for proper wiring.

The -51 should sub to the -61 and has 11 connections. They should not
sub to the -31 or -71 which have 10 connections. The -31 and -71 differ in
the value of the resistors and should not sub as long as both are available.
