Expression of Interest



Spring and Summer 2008 Programs: If you plan to conduct a study abroad program in the spring or

summer of 2008, you should submit the information requested below by May 15, 2007. This will allow us

to begin planning for your program. Your complete proposal will be due on September 1, 2007.

Thereafter, the deadlines given below will apply to all programs.

Program Name: Reggio Emilia, Italy Study Abroad—A Collaboration with Clemson University,

College of Charleston, University of South Carolina, and Other SC Colleges



Program Venue: City of Reggio Emilia, Italy and Italian Approach to Early Childhood Education



Program Dates: Maymester or Summer I of 2008: approximately 2 to 3 weeks (to be determined)



Program Tuition: 3 or 6 hours of Clemson graduate or undergraduate credits



Program Fees: $2600 for 3 weeks (approximate)



Courses Offered and Credits ED 438/439: Selected Topics in Italian Education; ED 738/739: Independent

Study in Italian Education; ED EC 810: Advanced Foundations of ECE; and ED EC 820: Advanced

Curriculum in ECE; ED EC 220: Family, School, and Community (each course is 3 credits;6 credits total

can be taken on this study abroad)



Brief Description of Program An in-depth study of the Reggio Emilia Early Childhood Education

Approach that includes a homestay with an Italian family; beginning Italian language lessons;

intensive study of the history and elements of the Reggio Emilia Approach to Early Childhood

Education; tours of Florence, Bologna, and other Italian cities; cultural experiences in the

community that include museums, art events, family festivals, shopping; theater; and other

student-selected activities. Opportunities for students to travel before or after the study abroad

experience.

The following deadlines apply for submission of approval forms for programs conducted after Summer

2008:



Programs to be offered during: Deadline for submission of program

proposal and approval form:

Fall Semester September 15 of the prior year

Spring Semester January 15 of the prior year

Summer Semester/Maymester May 15 of the prior year

Examples:

To offer a program in fall 2008, you should submit your approval form and documentation by

September 15, 2007.



To offer a program in spring 2009, you should submit your approval form and documentation by

January 15, 2008.



To offer a program in summer 2009, you should submit your approval form and documentation by

May 15, 2008.
