Automatic fire extinguisher AUFEX®
AUFEX – Automatic fire extinguisher
Producer: ZHT Group s.r.o. 753 61 HRANICE VII – Slavic 16 Czech Republic
This system supplies efficient and effective means to extinguish gaseous , liquid and solid kinds of fire,
especially the ones that come from solid fuels that burn with embers (class A – wood, paper, fabrics etc), from
inflammable fluids (class B – hydrocarbons, alcohol etc), this system also cand extinguish fires started by
lighting plants having voltages up to 60,000 volts.
FEATURES
- The sizes for a AUFEX bottle are 300 x 70 mm, its weight is of 1100 g, and the liquid volume is of 900
cm³.
img.. : ampule
- At 85 - 90o C the liquid in the bottle turns into gas. Its pressure breaks the bottle and there takes place
the instantaneous extinction of the fire.
- The shivers after the break of the recipient fall in pieces without angles , so there is no danger for
anybody or anything to be cut by accident.
- The extinguishing liquid – gas or liquid – does not harm the human body.
It doesn’t need any periodical control or maintenance.
- 10-year service life
USAGE
How to use the AUFEX automatic fire extinguisher:
Potential scenaries for a fire to be started are the following:
1. A fire started by accident in a protected area
2. A fire started on purpose in a protected area
3. A fire started close by a protected area
4. A fire started by a natural event (earthquake, thunder)
The system for fires exinction called AUFEX is made to protect closed areas, for all the above mentioned
potential scenaries.
AUFEX can be used in three ways:
- Automatic extinction;
- Manual extinction;
- Dilution with water.
Automatic extinction - it is recommanded to extinguish fires started by accident, in protected areas
If there is started a fire, the AUFEX solution is turned into gas under the effect of the temperature in the gaseous
mass, and so the increased pressure breaks the thin glass walls of the bottle.
In this way the solution turned into gas floods the protected area, where it will extinguish the fire.
How to use AUFEX as a manual kit for fires extinction:
If a fire is started close to a protected area, AUFEX can also be used as a manual extinguisher
In this case, the bottle can be taken out from the support and thrown in the area where the fire was set on.
The spread solution after the recipent was broken takes a sudden and efficient action.
How to extinguish fires by dilution the AUFEX solution with water:
The capacity of the fires extinction is increased by dilution the AUFEX solution with
10 l of water
It is not used for extinguishing fires that come from lighting plants
The dilution with water is recommanded to extinguish fires that come from solid fuels that burn with embers
(class A - wood, paper, textiles etc) and from inflammable fluids(class B - hydrocarbons, alcohol etc)
The efficient solution is kept for 24 hours since the bottle has been broken.
Pic..Aufex can be use three ways:
1. Automatic extinction
2. Manual kit for fires extinction
3. Dilution the AUFEX solution
with 10 l of water as Fire
Extinguishing Agent
Comparing the effects of other extinguishing agents used in present, we notice that the AUFEX fires extinction
system is an unique way to prevent or to extinguish a fire.
From the economical point of view, using AUFEX is very profitably:
- The procedure of its installment is not complicated and it is done in a very short time; there is no need of tanks,
compressors or other components;
- It has got an independent , automatic and autonomous system to detect, active it and extinguish fires;
- It does not depend on externel electric energy sources or pressure;
It does not need any maintenance during its life period, comparing to other conventional systems;
- There are not maintenance costs;
- Because of its long life time, the investment represents a minimal expense, comparing to the protection offered
by using it;
- 10 years service life.
LOCALATION
How to place the AUFEX system:
AUFEX is noticed because of its automatic capacity to extinguish fires; it is unique because it can be used
without any help from a person .
To increase its effects, the equipment needs to be placed very correctly, respecting the following principles:
The equipment must be placed with the plug attached at a distance of 10 cm from the ceiling, on horizontal
If the equipment is placed on a surface of plastic thin material , there is needed a support
The equipment must be placed in the most inflammable area , or close to the most important source of heat
When the AUFEX system is placed, it must be known that its action is spread over a surface of 8 –10 m3.
Drawing of AUFEX Extinguishing Area
Key to the AUFEX working area upon activation. Installation height: 2 to 2.5 m.
The highest efficiency is achieved approx. 40 to 80 cm from the place where the system is installed. It is
therefore necessary to choose the place of installation carefully, so that it is above the initiation source and above
places with a high risk of fire. The effective area depends on the installation height and other conditions of the
environment.
Drawing of two AUFEX Extinguishing Area
It can be placed more Aufex abreast or above for
highest efficientcy, so that it is above the initiation
source and above places with a hight risk of fire.
Weather and climate
The AUFEX is activated almost irrespective of any weather or climate, wheater hot or cold, but in an extremely
cold weather, if the temperature of the air surrounding the Aufex ampoule goes below –18, the chemical solution
within the ampoule mey be frozen. In such case it can teke longer than ordinary climate before the Aufex
activated.
How to install AUFEX
Use the two holes privided to nail the bracked to the wall or ceiling.
In all cases the Aufex must be installed horizontally and not vertically or any other angle. In case the Aufex is to
be mounted on plywood or other things on which the bracked cannot be nailed securely, use a wooden board or
other thing so that the bracket may be nailed down and fixed securely.
Where to install AUFEX
In case AUFEX ampoules are not properly installed, they may not be very wffective in putting out a fire or their
fire extinguishing effectiveness may be greatly reduced
1. Installing the Aufex in the Kitchen or a Room where Heat is Used:
Install an appropriate number of Aufex ampoules on the wall near and above the area where a range, water
boiler, or other source of heat is concentrated, or on the ceiling directly or approximately above this area.
In the case there is a ventilation fan on the wall, install Aufex ampoules some distance away from the fan
but still enough to the possible source of fire. This becouse a ventilation fan, if it is working when a fire
breaks out, may suck the fire extinguishing gas generated by the Aufex out of the room and prevent or
reduce the fire extinguishing effectiveness
2. Installing the AUFEX in a Children’s Room, Living Room, Bed Room, Etc.:
Install an apropriate number of AUFEX ampoules on such parts of the ceiling as are away from the room’s
center and away from the door to the room, or on the upper parts of a wall walls (about 10 cm below the
ceiling) which are 1 meter more away from a window, if any.
In the case there is a heater in the room, install one or more Aufex ampoules on the wall near and above the
heater.
3. Additional Places fot Installing AUFEX
In the case of a two-storied house, it is desiarble to install an appropriate number of AUFEX ampoules on
the ceiling above the staircase or on the wall along side the staircase. This is for fighting the fire spreading
from the first (or ground) floor to the second (or first) floor.
If there is a lot of electrical wiring in the attics of a house and there is concern about possible fire due to
electricitz leakage or other reason, install an appropriate number of Aufex ampoules in the attics
4. Installing Aufex in Offices, Werenhouses and Factories
The instruction given above generallz apply to the offices, warenhouses and factories as well. But depending
on the condition of such places and things kept there, special precautions are required in determining the
number and places of installation of the AUFEX. Consult your dealer or us.
Examples of aplication:
Standart setting instruction
As a guideline for an efficient layout of the sufficient number of ampoules in a certain room,
considering its significance, the following experience-based rules are to be observed:
HOTELS' SAFETY
Guests´ room 1 piece per m², 1 piece as addition for tea kitchen
Corridors 1 piece every 2 linear meters
Kitchen 1 piece in each cooker hood and a few additional pieces for hazardous places
(particularly where larger quantities of fat or fatty ingredients are kept and
which might very well be close to the fire)
CLINICS AND HOSPITALS
In clinics and hospitals the water sprinklers are obligatory and their installation in the old buildings is often only
still possible in terms of expenses. There a AUFEX represents an optimal solution.
Smaller wards 1 piece per 4 m²
Larger wards 2 pieces per 4 m²
Corridors 1 piece every 2 linear meters
Rooms for staff 1 piece per 4 m²
Kitchens 1 piece per 4 m², 1 piece in each aisle, additional protection around the cooker
Boiler rooms 2 pieces per 4 m²
Fuel storage 2 pieces per 4 m², 1 - 2 pieces over the fuel tank
INSTALLATION IN VESSELS
It is installed as main protection in the machine rooms of the vessels. The automatic fire extinguisher AUFEX is
eminently suitable for this kind of places. It is highly efficient in extinguishing fires on electrical installations.
With fires of fuels and oils it is the most suitable extinguisher. The number of ampoules is to be carefully
considered and planned. The advantage of AUFEXwith these fires is that it acts as spray and does not cause
sparks or short circuits. It is an ideal substitute for sprinklers on large boats.
Power transmission 1 - 2 pieces per 4 m², depending on the dimensions of the room
Smaller machine house 1 - 2 pieces per 4 m²
Machine house 2 - 6 pieces, depending on the size of engine and its type
Passenger cabin 1 piece per 8 m³. The number of .extinguishers is to be increased in cases of
forced ventilation resp. draught.
APARTMENT OR HOUSE
Kitchen 1 - 2 pieces per 4 m³
Small kitchen hood 1 piece for a standard kitchen cooker
Large kitchen hood 2 pieces for a cooker with more than 4 hotplates
Boiler room 1 piece per 4 m², 1 piece over the fuel tank
Living room 1 piece per 4 m², 1 piece over the fire hazardous places like the fire place, gas or
petroleum lamps, electrical devices generating heat
Storage 1 piece per 4 m², 1 piece over the potential fire hazardous places
Fuel storage 2 pieces per 4 m²
Loft 1 piece per 4 m²
Stairs 1 piece per floor
Vertical installation shaft 1 piece per floor
Horizontal installation shaft 1 piece per 4 - 8 m² of floor areas
BUSINESS PREMISES
Computer room 1 piece per 4 m², 1 piece over the potential fire hazardous places
Guest room 1 piece per 4 m²
Tea kitchen 1 piece per 4 m², kitchen hood / ventilator - 1 piece over the cooker
Boiler house 2 pieces per 4 m²
Smaller storage 1 piece per 4 m²
INDUSTRIAL PROTECTION AND LABORATORIES
Note: Large closed areas are as far as fire risk is concerned similar to open areas in terms of fire spreading and
extinguishing. AUFEX is suitable for large places, but not as efficient as in small closed areas. Therefore a large
number of ampoules is to be installed.
The basic guidelines to observe are:
Digestoria 1 piece per standard digestorium
Laboratory desks 1 - 2 pieces per 4 m² (plus additionally 2 pieces
to be thrown into the fire)
Area less than 2 x 2 m and height 2,5 m 1 piece per 4 m²
Area exceeding 2 x 2 m and less than 10 x 5 m height 2,5m 2 pieces per 4 m²
Area exceeding 10 x 5 m and less than 20 x 10m height 2,5m 3 pieces per 4 m²
Lacquering room 1 piece per 4 m²
Drying tunnels 1 piece per 4 m²
Aerosols filling 1 piece per 4 m²
STORES
textiles 1 piece per 4 m²
stationary 1 piece per 4 m²
newspaper agent 1 piece per 4 m²
Additional Instructions
- Install Aufex ampoules in the place where the temperature will be the highhest in case of fire (for
example, on the wall or ceiling near the place where fire is used)
- Generally, the most effective fire extinguishing area of a AUFEX automatic fire extinguisher is about 6-
8 m3 per one ampoule. Install the AUFEX with this in mind. However, in places where oil or other
inflammable materials are used or kept, install them at an average rate of one AUFEX ampoule per 2 to
3 square meters of floor space.
- In offices and factories where the ceiling is relatively high or the ceiling area is larger, or where there
are a lot of furniture pieces or goods stored, install AUFEX ampoules in a zigzag fashion on the ceiling
at a rate of 1 per every 2 to 3 m3
- In case the oil you are cooking with other inflammable material should catch on fire, do not throw a
AUFEX ampoule into the burning oil or material, as this may splash the burning oil or material in all
directions and the fire may spread. Instead, throw AUFEX ampoules against the wall above the burning
oil or material so that the fire extinguishing chemical will spread over the burning surface
- In case a fire breaks out near an electrical outlet on the wall, and if you try to extinguish the fire by
throwing a AUFEX ampoule, throw it carefully to a place some distance away from the electrical outlet.
If it is thrown to place near or directly to the outlet, this may couse electric short circuit and mat further
spread the fire.
- In the place where there is no ceiling or where the sides are open all the time or at time when a fire
breaks out, the AUFEX ampoules installed in such places are not every effective as automatic fire
extinguishers. Likewise a AUFEX is not very effective if thrown at a fire outdoors.
- In a case a fire breaks out in a room where no AUFEX ampoule is installed, the ampoules installed in an
adjacent room are not activated until the fire spreads to that adjacent room.
- Even after AUFEX ampoules are activated and a fire is put out, there is danger that the apparently
extinguished fire may start again where there is inflammable gas or oil leakage, or where a lot of
syntetic fiber material are stored. Be especialy careful about this danger .
- Depending on the conditions under which a fire starts, for example, the intensity of the fire, or the
complexity of the enviroment of a fire, the fire-extinguishing chemical may not be diffused enough
completely to put out a fire
- AUFEX ampoules are made of glass with wall thickness of 1 mm. Therefore, handle them with care. If
an ampoule has even a hair-line crack, this may prevent it from activating automatically.

Safety at Work and Protection of Health
When the AUFEX extinguishing system activates, the glass container breaks up to small fractions (5 to 20 mm).
The temperature near the AUFEX extinguisher during the time of activation may exceed 250°C and so it is
forbidden to stand anywhere near the device at that time.
Do not throw the automatic AUFEX extinguisher into burning liquids (e.g. oils, organic solvents, vegetable fats)
or in other burning materials that could spread or spill - there is a risk that the fire may spread.
Do not use for extinguishing of substances that have a hazardous reaction with water.
ADVENTAGES
Using AUFEX system is very advantageous. Some of these advantages are:
- The extinction of the fire is very fast;
- Its activation destroys the chemical part of the burning process;
- It diminishes the material damages because of its limited action on the fire focus and it shackles the fire
extension that come from inflammable materials such as oils, gas, plastic masses, wood, paper, lighting
or electronic equipments etc;
- It is very easy to be used, it does not need extra installments (warehouses, pipes, recipients under
pressure etc)
- If it is moved to another space, the costs for its re-placing and re-installment are very low, and there is
no need to set up the system again;
- It has an independent, automatic and autonomous system to detect, active and extinguish fires;
- It does not depend on the external sources of electric energy or pressure;
- The action of the thermical agent does not depend on the oxygen quantity, and it can take action without
any problem at altitude or within other areas with a low oxygen concentration;
- The raport between its price and the protection offered is the lowest one, comparing to other
conventional systems for fires extinction
- The maintenance costs do not exist;
- It offers protection in closed areas,which are impossible to be protected until this system was
discovered;
- 10 years service life its chances to turn into out of work or lose the inner properties are null;
- it is very accessible for every person;
- it does not need any maintenance or control;
- The AUFEX design does not have any effect on the aesthetical part of the space where it is placed;
- It is used in spaces where it is needed a very prompt action when a fire is started; in those places where
the fire can be started anytime by day or night, or in places where the damages caused by conventional
extingushing agents are not accepted;
