Unit 6, Week 4- Word Work Plans
                            Theme: Inventors Then and Now

                    African-American Inventors
Focus: Words with –or and ore, and oar

NOTE: Phonics can be consistant. I teach students consistant rules that help them with spelling. I teach the sound units like
   this:

 They know that o+e makes the long o sound. All they are doing is adding the consonant r in between as they would
any other consonant sound in the vowel+e rule. (here)

 I have already taught that oa makes the long o sound. Here they are adding r to make oar as in roar and boar .

 or is an r -controlled vowel that I’ve already taught

Spelling Words: more, tore, wore, store, oar, roar, board, port, north, fort

High Frequency Words: building, machine, scientist

   Review Words: dear, here

   Monday:

 Vocabulary –Day one of Robust Vocabulary lesson.

            cork/fork, roar/soar, more/bore, born/torn, short/port, soar/roar) on the pocket chart, read them. As a
review, use response cards for the sounds, and ask children to identify the letter combinations in each word
you call out – or, oa+r and -o+e.

 Grammar –Adverbs that tell how Transparency 141, An adverb tells more about a verb in a sentence. An
adverb can tell ‘how’ an action happens. Adverbs often end in –ly.
