Economic Development activity in Sheldon. Attached to this summary are the statistics for 2010.
As with the national economy, 2010 Sheldon was certainly affected by the recession. Although we are not immune to a national
recession, our community is poised to minimize the effects of the recession. Here is a brief summary of the statistics provided
with this report.
The Sheldon Redevelopment Incentive Fund or “Storefront Program” saw another active year.
There were a total of 4 projects approved this year. This program has approved a total of 62 forgiv-
able loans since the inception of the program with a total capital investment of $1,348,341 in existing
building improvements.
Local Option Sales Tax Revenue decreased in FY 2009-2010 to $351,879. These are sales tax dol-
lars produced as consumer buy goods and services from the local businesses in our community. So
far for FY 10/11 the City of Sheldon is seeing an increase in L.O.S.T. collections.

to $64,320 in 2008. These funds are generated by guests to our community staying at our local ho-
tels. These funds are used by the Sheldon Marketing Committee for community betterment projects
and to market the community.
Sheldon T.I.F. Revenue generated during 09/10 fiscal year was $1,794,691 compared to $488,301
in 01/02. This is significant because the City of Sheldon released 3 areas of our community (Orab
Addition, Schemper & Sunshine additions) which have approximately $5 million dollars in valuation.
The taxes generated by these areas will be distributed among the various taxing agencies.
