Research Project
Rock Collection
Your child is currently learning all about Pebbles, Sand, and Silt in Science. As a part of this study,
each child will have to create a Rock Collection.
This research project will count towards both science and research grades for the current quarter.
For this project, your child must collect 3 different rocks. Please present each rock on a separate
page. Each page should contain:
A drawing of the rock
Color of the rock
Size of the rock
Shape of the rock
Texture of the rock
Shiny or Dull?
Floats or Sinks?
1 informational paragraph about the rock
PLEASE USE THE ATTACHED PAGES TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT.
The report should be presented in a folder with a decorative cover. Make sure the student’s name
and room number are on the front cover.
Important things to remember:
All work must be in the student’s own handwriting.
Informational sentences must demonstrate that some research was completed.
Projects will be graded for correct spelling and grammar (capital letters, periods, and complete
sentences).
Please see the grading rubric for more information.
Remember, the Rock Collection is meant to be a family project. Please work with your child to
ensure a high quality final product. Research should be completed using books from the library or the
internet.
Project Due Date: Tuesday, October 12, 2010
All reports are due ON TIME. One point will be deducted for each day the project is late.
