August 1 - 6, 2010
Limited to 25 participants
Join the Friends of WILL and popular radio host, John Frayne, for a magical opera tour to Santa Fe. We will attend
two performances at the Opera, with an option for a third, in Santa Fe’s glorious, partially outdoor, setting.
Nestled 7000 feet above sea level in the foothills of the Rockies, Santa Fe is one of America’s oldest cities,
and boasts a long history and rich cultural heritage. Founded as a capital city in 1607 by Spanish explorers, it has
been claimed by the Pueblo Peoples, the Spanish Crown, Mexico and the Confederacy. Today it is a sophisticated
city, famous for its diverse cultures, museums and galleries, outstanding cuisine, and the Santa Fe Opera.
During the day we will make excursions outside Santa Fe to explore Native
American and Spanish sites rich in history such as an ancient and modern pueblo, artisan
workshops, museums and galleries. We’ll also celebrate famed American artist Georgia
O’Keeffe with a visit to her home in Abiquiu and the country she painted, as well as the
Museum in the city which houses many of her greatest works.
Meanwhile, you will enjoy deluxe accommodations at the La Fonda Inn, located on
Santa Fe’s historic Plaza, at the end of the Old Santa Fe Trail. This is Santa Fe’s most historic
hotel, an original Harvey Hotel, built by Fred Harvey as a stop along the old train routes in
the west (remember the movie with Judy Garland?). While in Santa Fe you’ll also enjoy a concert at the fine
Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, John’s commentary on all the music you will hear, as well as fine dining in some of the
best restaurants and caterers in the region!
