From a letter I received from my 2nd cousin, Frank McCormick dated August 30, 1993:
Sarah Vernon was Nancy Hume's mother.
Joel and Nancy had 2 sons, Wallace and Edward,
3 daughters, Mary (Gore), Melissa (Holmes), and Estella (Reynolds).
Mary lived in Rockport, MO, Estella lived in Plattsmouth, NE,
Melissa lived in Oklahoma.
Wallace had 3 sons, Roy, Edward, & Floyd, 5 girls, Ethel, Flossie,
Millie, Elsie, & Dorthy.
Ed had 3 sons, James, Charles, & Paul. 3 girls, Pearl, Ruby, & Opal.
Estella had Edward, Charles, Joe, Ruby Jennie, & Jessie.
George Hume came here from England in the late 1700.
Jody L. Wyatt had one brother Tom. He lived at Osceola, MO. Tom was a Civil War vet. I remember him for his
visits to Grandad's. He would tell tales about the war. Tom had two sons George and Dee.

Frank McCormick
This letter was sent to me in response to a phone call my step-grandmother (Wilma Lucile McKean) made to
Frank regarding my family research. I sent Frank a letter not long after receiving this one asking more questions,
but never received either the letter or a response from Frank back. At this time (10/12/1999), I do not know if
Frank is deceased or not, but he would be approximately 95 years old. Update 03/19/2001 - Frank is listed on the
SSDI with a death date of 02/10/1996.
Sarah Vernon is Sarah Lewellyn who married Noah Vernon (son of Issac Vernon) - Sarah's file
Joel Hume is Joel Piat Hume, son of George William Hume and Mary 'Polly' Huffman, both born in KY.
I have listed Joseph Larkin and Thomas R. Wyatt under Samuel Wyatt because Joseph's death certificate states
father's name clearly as 'Samuel', not Saunders. In researching both Samuel & Saunders, I have found that they
were married to sisters. Rachael DeLozier (daughter of Edward and Frances (Fanny) Dyer) was married to
Saunders Wyatt in Henry Co., VA and younger sister Mary DeLozier was married to Samuel Wyatt.
Samuel & Mary's trail seems to stop here. I believe that Sam & Mary may have met an early death and the boys
(Joseph & Thomas) were very young and taken in by Saunders and his 2nd wife Eliza Ralston (which is where
Joseph & Thomas are listed as children in a file in the FHCL records).
Saunders died on June 14, 1858 in St.Clair Co, On the 1860 Missouri Census, Thomas R. is listed as living with a
family by the name of Robert D. Lawler, age 34, & wife Adaline, (who is a Delozier) age 30, and daughter Sarah
F, age 1 year.
On the Iowa 1880 Census, Joseph lists father's place of birth - VA and mother's place of birth - unkn US.

There is an Ancestral File on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints FamilySearch site for Saunders
WYATT. Listed among his seven children are the following:

Joseph is my great-grandfather, and listed on his death certificate, his father's name was Samuel, not Saunders.
I have a copy of the 1840 Mo Census where both men are listed in Rives Co, Samuel on pg 374 & Saunders on pg
375. There are 3 children listed for Samuel, and 4 children listed for Saunders.
The three children listed above, Joseph, Margaret, and Thomas are the children of Samuel Wyatt and Mary
DeLozier (daughter of Edward DeLozier & Frances Sarah [Dyer] DeLozier. My research results are as follows:
Joseph = Joseph Larkin Wyatt, b. March 10, 1849 in St.Clair Co (formerly Rives Co), Mo (m Caroline Hume,
Fremont Co, IA)
Thomas R = b. March 5, 1844 in St. Clair Co, Mo (m Susan Ventris)
Margaret = b. abt 1854, in St. Clair Co, Mo (m Robert Allen Briggs, 1874, Henry Co, Mo)
I believe that Samuel and Mary died (fever epidemic or something of that nature) when the children were very
young. They were probably taken in by Saunders and his wife, Eliza [Ralston] Wyatt, therefore were erroneously
listed as children (probably from census records). On the 1860 MO census, Thomas R (age 15) is living with his
Aunt Adeline [DeLozier] and Uncle Robert Lawler.
However, I can't seem to find Joseph or Margaret.
Will the descendants of Saunders please come forward??? I need help to determine the relationship between
Saunders and Samuel. I know they were related somehow, just don't know if brothers or cousins. Vincent Wyatt is
listed as the father of Saunders, but no Samuel is listed as a child? Can someone help????
Also, how do I get the records corrected on the LDS site? The submitters are Roberta Jean Schick of Denver, CO,
and Sondra S. Smith of Lakewood, CO. No listing for either of them in the white pages....

My grandmother, Wilma Lucile Wyatt seems to recall that Thomas was a Baptist minister in Osceola, MO.
1860 MO Census shows Thomas R. Wyatt (age 15) living with his Aunt Adaline [DeLozier] Lawler and her
husband Robert Daniel Lawler, and their daughter Sarah (age 1 yr ? ) in St. Clair Co. No mention of Thomas'
brother Joseph L. Wyatt or sister Margaret Wyatt. Unable to locate Samuel and Mary on the 1860 MO census.

Following is a copy of Great-grandfather Joseph's obituary. There are numerous typographical errors which
include dates, therefore I have made the following notes:
1) correct year of birth is 1849, not 1859.
"THE FREMONT COUNTY HERALD. August 25, 1921. "Joseph Larkin Wyatt".--Joseph Larkin Wyatt was
born in St. Clair county, Missouri March 10, l859 and died at the home of his daughter near Knox, Iowa, August
20, 1921, age 72 years and 5 months.

Mr. Wyatt spent his youth and early manhood in Missouri, coming north at the age of 26 years. He made his
home for two years in Cass county, Nebraska, coming to Fremont county in the year 1875.
On January 1, l877, he was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Hume and settled in his home five miles south of
Thurman where he resided almost continuously until a few months ago when frequent illness caused him to give
up active and industrious life. Although suffering at frequent intervals he was patient and uncomplaining to the
end. Mr. Wyatt was an honest and upright citizen and was a friend to all who knew him and had not an enemy in
the world. He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church, being converted and uniting with the church
at Grand View in the year 1894. He lived a true Christian life until the Lord called him from his earthly home. He
leaves to mourn his death, his wife, four children, seven grandchildren, one brother, Thomas R. of Gerster,
Missouri, one sister, Mrs. Margaret Briggs of Oklahoma and numerous other relatives and friends. The children
are Will and Ray of Sidney, George of Thurman, Mrs. Minnie Kuhns of near Knox. Jennie and little Joseph died
in infancy.
The funeral was held on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Freedom church, conducted by Rev. Todd of
Sidney. Interment in the Grand View Cemetery.The relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were
William Gore and two daughters, Mrs. Ada Showater and Mrs. Enice Rankin of Tarkio, George Showater, wife
and daughter of Rock Port, Edward Reynolds and Mrs. Ruby Mapes of Lincoln, Mrs. Charles Cole of Thurman
and Mrs. Flossie Smith of Percival."

Originally, when I found Thomas R. Wyatt on the 1860 MO Census, he was living with his aunt. But couldn't find
father Samuel, brother Joseph, or sister Margaret on any index for MO for the year 1860. And forget 1850........I
found Samuel on the 1840 MO (Rives Co prior to becoming Henry, then St. Clair Co) census, but of course that
doesn't give much information other that 0-4, 5-9 etc age ranges......
I think the key is to find them on the 1850 & 1860 census. But at least now I know that Joseph was with his aunt
& uncle and explains how he got to Oklahoma from MO prior to arriving in IA in 1875. Apparently the Joseph
Delozier (Delosier) family moved to Oklahoma between 1871 & 1873 (Joseph DeLozier died in Chelsea, OK in
1910).

"SIDNEY ARGUS-HERALD. October 17, l935.--"MRS. CAROLINE WYATT": Caroline B. Hume was born
near Thurman October 16, l859. She was the daughter of Joel and Nancy Hume. At the place of her birth she
grew to womanhood, lived on the farm, and attended the Brightside country school. In this same schoolhouse she
attended Sunday school and church. Later, when the Freedom Presbyterian church was built she became a
member there.
She was married on January 1, l877, to Joseph L. Wyatt. Her companion died August 20, l921, and though much
alone and lonesome during the years of her widowhood, Mrs. Wyatt kept the faith unto the end. Two children
were taken from her home by death in infancy. They were Jennie and Joseph. Four other children are yet living:
Will of Sidney, Mrs. Minnie Kuhns of Thurman, George T. and Ray R. of Sidney.
Of her brothers and sisters there are the following: Mrs. Melissie Holms of Alva, Oklahoma; Mrs. Eliza Goar
(sic) of Wellington, Kansas; John Hume of Alva, Oklahoma; George Hume and Grenville Hume of Pullman,
Washington; Edward Hume of Haywarden, Montana. There are ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren
and nine great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wyatt had been in declining health for the
past two years. Her last serious illness was of six weeks duration. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs.
Minnie Kuhns, October 8, 1935, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 22 days. Funeral services at the Methodist
Church Thursday, October 10, the pastor, Rev. C.M. Corrie, officiating. Burial in Grandview."

'Little Joseph' is mentioned in my great-grandfather's (Joseph Larkin Wyatt) obituary, and again in my
great-grandmother Caroline's obituary. I suspected there was another child as one of the census records
lists 'no of live births' and I was one off.
I have checked the Grandview cemetery records (Joseph, Caroline, Robert Ray, and Jennie Maud are
buried here), and do not see any indications that 'Little Joseph' is buried with the family.

' Services wereheld at the Crawford Funeral chapel in Sidney on June 1 at 10:30 a.m. for James W. Wyatt, who
died at his home May 29. Paul Sisson officiated.
Pallbearers were Tim Wyatt, Bob Bastian, Terry J. Nennemen, Tom Wyatt, Bruce Blevins and John Orton.
James Wallace Wyatt was born October 5, 1900, the only son of John and Effie Wyatt, in Sidney, Iowa and
attained the age of 76 yers, 7 months and 24 days.
His early life was spent in the Knox and Sidney areas where he attended Bright Side country school. He was a
member of the Englewood Christian church of Portland, OR, and also a 50 year member of the Knights of
Pythias.
On March 1, 1933, he married Leila Bales and to this union two children were born. Mr Wyatt traveled
throughout the midwest as a jewelry salesman for 20 years.
His parents preceded him in death. Surviving him are three children by his first marriage: Norma N. Murphy, of
Salem, oregon; James W. Wyatt, Wenatchee, WA; and Phyllis Schramm of Chicago, IL.
Also surviving him are his widow, Leila and two children, Kenneth E. Wyatt of Kirksville, MO; and Debra K.
(Mrs Bruce) Blevins of Sidney.
He is also survived by his seventeen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Burial was in Sidney cemetary. '
