escape from the constant whirl of quills through the air? Well, don’t be
glum. We found out today that there is an antidote!
But, first Deb launched an All-American salute to the flag.
Then, Nancy G opened up her quote book to share with us this
from good ole’ Emily Dickinson:
We never know how high we are
Till we are asked to rise
And then if we are true to plan
Our statures touch the skies

And, what is the secret antidote to the Porcupine’s
quills?…why, you give them a bit of their own medicine. And, who better to
do it than District 5180 Governor Barry Kalar.
Armed with a year’s supply of Paul Harris pins, he went
on the attack…pinning RCSB porcupines right and left, male
and female, young and old, quilled and quill-less. And, for
good measure, sometimes he added two or three more.
But, it seemed to work. By the time it was over, porcupines
Joy, Betsy, Dennis, Mike, Nancy B, Nora and
Sam had all been pinned; Peggy, Sandi, and Nancy G
two plus times; and Jean…well she had so many pins, she
looked like she just walked out of a Rotary convention.
It was a glorious morning for Paul Harris,
the venerable founder of Rotary, and his
pins.

More About Rotary
Rotary leadership - Governance
Rotary is a grassroots organization, and most of its humanitarian efforts are
carried out at the club level. The district and international structure is de-
signed to support the clubs and help them increase service efforts in their Rotary District 5180
communities and abroad.
The Rotary year begins 1 July. At this time, the new Rl president and a new
Rotary Foundation trustee chair begin their one-year terms.
