Website: http://www.harfordcountymd.gov/services/mediation/

Short Description of Agency Mission and Focus:
“ HCCMP helps individuals resolve their conflict in a safe neutral setting where they have the
opportunity to talk about how they felt and they can express their emotions without the fear of
being judged. Because the mediation process encourages participants to develop their own
solutions, the results are more creative and longer lasting. Mediation is an alternative to court
which can be time consuming, costly and oftentimes the result does not actually resolve the
underlying reasons for the conflict.

Requirements for Participation:
Attend and complete 45-hours of classroom/role play instructions followed by an
apprenticeship that consists of:
            2 observations of mediations,
            2 co-mediations with a more experienced mediator,
            And an evaluation/strategy session
            A 5 hour follow-up training.
PLEASE NOTE: This training is only open to individuals who can commit to volunteer with HCCMP for a minimum of 36
hours, after completing the training and apprenticeship. Mediators can complete the volunteer hours through outreach
at fairs, presentations to community groups, committee work, and by assisting in the office. Please note the importance
of making a long-term commitment with HCCMP if you wish to go through this training. Certificates will be issued once
the 36 hours of volunteer work is completed.
