Reading Rules!

Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit &

WQLN co-sponsored the Seventeenth

Annual Regional PBS Kids Go Writers Contest

(formerly Young Writers & Illustrators Contest).

The PBS Kids Go Writers Contest extends this mission by encouraging and

challenging children from kindergarten through third grade to create their

own picture books.

Preliminary judging took place in April, 2011. Entries were judged on

originality, creative expression, storytelling, and integration of copy and

illustrations. The top three entries from each grade level were declared

winning entries.

Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit and WQLN are hosting a regional

“Writer’s Party!” The selected entries will be read by their authors. The

readings will be taped and available for duplication. The parents and teachers

of the winners are invited to the party. Gift certificates and other prizes will

be awarded at the party. The party will be held on May 12, 2011, beginning at

6:30 p.m. We extend invitations to any interested parties. The local news

media will be contacted by press release to cover this event.

Feel free to contact Wendy Carson at the IU (814) 734-5610 x8389 or Kathy

Carducci at WQLN (814) 217-6001 for more information.
