National Chapter Award Program Application

The National Chapter award program is designed to award those FFA chapters who actively implement the Mission
and Strategies of the organization. These chapters improve chapter operations using a program of activities that
emphasizes student, chapter and community development. Quality standards have been developed in each area as
minimum requirements for recognition in the Superior/National Chapter Award program. The FFA Mission and
Strategies should be used as a guide in planning, implementing and assessing accomplishments.
Division I - Student Development
The purpose of this division is to encourage the chapter to develop individual and cooperative activities that will
enhance students' life skills.
1. Leadership activities that help the individual develop technical, human relations and decision-making
leadership skills to enhance personal success. (Examples include leadership conferences, public speaking
experiences, team demonstrations, team and individual leadership competitions, volunteerism, international
student hosts, Made For Excellence, Washington Leadership Conference and state and national conventions.)
2. Healthy lifestyle activities that promote the well-being and self-esteem of the student, either mentally or
physically. (Examples include drug and alcohol prevention and education, personal safety, personal image
projection and recreation/leisure activities.)
3. Supervised agricultural experience activities that promote student involvement and growth through agriculture-
related experience and/or entrepreneurship. (Examples include Agricultural Proficiency awards, member
degrees, tours, Work Experience Abroad, guest speakers, record keeping and fair exhibits.)
4. Scholarship activities that develop a positive attitude toward lifelong learning experiences. (Examples include
scholarship awards, tutoring, school and college tours, FFA scholarships, leadership conference scholarships,
study-skills seminars for members and chapter/school honor roll.)
5. Agricultural career skills activities that develop agricultural occupation and career skills through a progressive
learning environment. (Examples include career day, guest speakers, shadow experiences, agricultural skills
and judging events, agriscience fairs, computer literacy activities, mentor programs and international
seminars and tours.)
Division II - Chapter Development
The FFA chapter has a responsibility to provide opportunities and services to its members. The chapter
responsibilities may be met by promoting increased member participation, financial responsibility, a positive image,
interactions with support groups and cooperation through organized activities.
1. Recruitment activities conducted to increase agricultural education enrollment and/or FFA membership and
encourage greater participation. (Examples include career class visits, agricultural demonstrations, visits to
lower grades, program information mailings, petting zoos, member barbecues, National FFA Week exhibits,
new member picnics, camping and fishing trips, and complimentary subscriptions to "FFA New Horizons.")
2. Financial activities conducted to encourage thrift and good financial management among members through
earnings, savings and investments. (Examples include developing chapter budgets, applying for loans,
livestock chains, top sales prizes, group purchasing programs, chapter fund raising and equipment
investments.)

3. Public relations activities conducted to promote a positive image and inform students, parents, school officials
and the community about chapter and member accomplishments. (Examples include newspaper articles,
chapter scrapbooks, local agricultural television programs, school marquees, member representatives at
school board meetings, National FFA Week, National Agricultural Week celebrations, chapter newsletters,
complimentary magazine subscriptions, chapter banquets, parliamentary procedure demonstrations for other
classes and recognition dinners.)
4. Leadership activities conducted to develop teamwork and cooperative skills among chapter officers,
committees and members. (Examples include officer training workshops, state and national leadership
workshops, committee chairperson training, executive committee planning, presenting officer and committee
chairperson service pins, chapter officer leadership retreats and workshops for new members on conducting
meetings.)
5. Support group activities conducted to develop and maintain positive relations among the FFA, parents,
community leaders and industry. (Examples include FFA Alumni, agriculture boosters, Young Farmers, Farm
Bureau, Grange, chamber of commerce, service clubs, Extension, fair boards, parent-teacher organization
participation, open houses, FFA/agricultural industry community tours, Community in the Classroom and
guest speakers)
Division III - Community Development
FFA can develop partnerships with other groups and organizations while taking a leadership role to make the
community a better place to live and work. Using state, national and international activities, a chapter and its
members can serve as catalysts to improve the community's economic, environmental and human resources.
1. Economic activities conducted to improve the economic welfare of the community. (Examples include
creation of jobs, member entrepreneurship, enhanced tourism, international development, historical
preservation and community relations.)
2. Environmental activities conducted to preserve natural resources and develop more environmentally
responsible individuals. (Examples include urban and rural conservation programs, water and air quality
programs, producer and consumer safety programs, hunter and firearm safety programs, and recycling
programs.)
3. Human resources activities conducted to improve the welfare and well being of members and citizens of the
community. (Examples include PALS - Partners in Active Learning Support - special populations involvement,
at-risk programs, cultural awareness and diversity programs, food drives and personal safety programs.)
4. Citizenship activities conducted to encourage members to become active, involved citizens of their school,
community and country. (Examples include volunteerism, community service, civic duties, internships with
government agencies, legislative breakfasts, work with local chamber of commerce and networking with
governmental agencies.)
5. Agricultural awareness activities conducted to help the public become better informed about the food system
and related agricultural issues. (Examples include Food For America, Agriculture in the Classroom,
agricultural literacy, agricultural safety, ATV safety, National Agricultural Day activities and student/parent
orientations.)
National FFA Chapter Award Program - Application Forms I and II
Instructions:
Chapters must submit Form I and Form II for verification and evaluation to compete for national awards above
the Superior Chapter level. Form II requires describing three major activities the chapter conducted under each
division that had the greatest impact on students, the chapter and/or community.
Major activities described in Form II may be the same as or different from those listed on Form I. Chapters may list
or use activities or parts of activities only one time on Form II. There must be three different and distinct
activities that relate to the quality standards under each appropriate division.
No additional pages or information may be added. The space is limited, so choose your words carefully to convey
the information needed to describe the activity. Use the scoring guidelines to complete and score the application.

Division I - Student Development
Area 1: Leadership Activities

1. Our chapter will attend the FFA Center program for FFA members in June.
2. Our chapter will conduct local Creed and Public Speaking contests during January.
3. Our chapter will sponsor one student to attend WLC in June.
4. We will attend, with officers, any leadership activities conducted by State FFA.
Area 2: Healthy Lifestyle

1. The Chapter will conduct, in conjunction with local hospital, a Health Fair for Teachers during
Teacher appreciation week.
2. The Chapter will have CPR classes to all Junior and Senior FFA members in October.
Area 3: SAE

1. The Officers will invite a guest speaker to every chapter meeting.
2. We give out local proficiency awards at Banquet. All forms are due by April.
3. Chapter will Sponsor a Goat and Chicken Show at the Towns Festival Day. The top five
animals in each category will compete at the county fair.
Area 4: Scholarship

1. The chapter will have a honor roll every grading period.
2. Chapter senior will tour the Technical School in March.
Area 5: Agricultural Career Skills

1. Chapter will participate in the school Career Fair in March.
2. Seniors will participate in a Job shadowing experience during May. All seniors will have visits
cleared with Guidance Department during April.

Division II - Chapter Development
Area 1: Chapter Recruitment

1. The Chapter will encourage members to bring a 8th grade student to the FFA Week Activities in
February.
2. Have a complementary subscription to “New Horizons” sent to the Middle School 8th grade
Teachers.
3. Sponsor Fun Park trip in the spring for students that have pre-registered for Agriculture.
Area 2: Financial Activities
List and describe activities.
1. Encourage members to participate in the Chapter Greenhouse Plant Sale. All member should sign
up to work in the greenhouse after school.
2. Every FFA members should sell two box's of fruit.
3.All Greenhand FFA members will have a SAE plan by October.
Area 3: Public Relations
List and describe activities.
1. Encourage members to attend the Farm City Banquet in December. Members will receive extra
credit for their attendance
2. Produce a Chapter Activity video containing members’ participation in activities. This will be shown
to all middle school students.
3. Hold an annual Chapter Banquet in May. Present Honorary Chapter Degrees to supporters of the
chapter.
4. Hold a Teacher Appreciation Luncheon during FFA Week. Thanking them for their support of the
Chapters POA.
5. Have news articles in local newspapers about achievements that we have during the year.
Area 4: Leadership Activities
List and describe activities.
1. Chapter Officers will attend the State FFA Leadership Conference.
2. Encourage members to attend State Convention. Our goal is to have a minimum of ten members.
3. The Nominating Committee will hold chapter officer interviews prior to elections at Banquet.
4. Hold chapter creed, public speaking, and parliamentary competitions to determine the Chapter
winner to advance to the regional CDE.
Area 5: Support Group Activities
List and describe activities.
1. Invite Young Farmers to attend Chapter Banquet.
2. The Chapter will cooperate with County Farm Bureau to have Farm City Showcase in March.
3. The Chapter will present Honorary Chapter Degree's to community leaders that have helped the
Chapter in completion our POA.
4.The Chapter will participate in school sponsored fund raising events to show school sprit.

Area 1: Economic Activities

1. Donate bedding plants to local Habitat for Humanity ever fall and spring.
2. Pledge $100 to local Red Cross.
3. Chapter will partnership with local Fire Departments to help them with their activities.
Area 2: Environmental Activities

1. Landscape around School Building and Grounds. This will be an on going project for the FFA and
the Horticulture students.
2. Environmental class will present demonstrations to the community on conservation and erosion
control in March.
3. Chapter will develop a recycling program for school.
Area 3: Human Resource Activities
List and describe activities.
1. Chapter FFA members in Horticulture class will clean up and landscape a yard of a senior citizen
during the month of April.
2. Sponsor a Animal Health Clinic for the town. We will assist the local veterinarians.
Area 4: Citizenship Activities
List and describe activities.
1. Chapter will adopt a grand parent at a nursing home for Christmas.
2. Chapter will conduct a PALS program throughout the year.
3. Greenhands will help clean the local fire department building and equipment.
Area 5: Agricultural Awareness Activities

1. We will have a Family Fun Day during the month of August for parents and members.
2. Have Fair Booths at County fair during the month of September.
3. Chapter Officer will have breakfast with School Administrators during the month of February in
conjunction with FFA Week and Legislature Appreciation Day.
4. Chapter will sponsor a poster contest during the month of April for elementary students anticipating
their trip to Agriculture Careers Day in May.
