There are 31 museums in Chicago, one of which
includes the Art Institute of Chicago (pictured
here), located at 111 S. Michigan Ave. Chicago, IL
60603. This museum is a gallery of paintings,
sculptures, and miscellaneous art.
Something else to do in Chicago would be to visit
the parks in it. There are 3 parks in Chicago. One
of these parks is Lincoln Park (bottom right hand
corner), located on Lake Michigan. This park,
which is 1,208 acres, is home to the Lincoln Park
Zoo, conservatory, and museum.
There are many exciting attractions to visit in Chicago.
Some of them are not specific places, but are just
scattered throughout the city. An example of this would
be the public art displayed all over the city.
A specific attraction would be the North Park Village
Nature Center, located at 5801 North Pulaski Road
Chicago, Illinois 60646. North Park Village Nature
Center provides urban citizens with an opportunity to
interact with wildlife, plants and other natural resources
through environmental education and access to
improved natural landscapes.
One of America's most popular 19th-century styles, the
Italianate was derived from the architecture of
Italian villas. Chicago architects used the style
between the 1860s and 1890s for a wide variety of
building types, from houses and small apartment
buildings, to institutional structures. Surviving
examples can be seen in most community areas
developed during the period, although the greatest
concentrations can be found in Lincoln Park, the Lower
West Side, and West Town.
Common characteristics are:
•vertical proportions
•tall, rounded windows and doors
•stone trim with incised foliated ornament
•intricate wood or pressed metal cornices
There are many spectacular sights in Chicago, but among the most
spectacular are the museums. An example of one of Chicago’s fine museums is
the Clarke House Museum, located at 1827 S. Indiana Ave. Clarke
House,Chicago's oldest house, is now open to the public. Tours of this 1836
Greek Revival style house reveal what life was like for a middle class family
in Chicago, when the city was in its formative years before the Civil War.
Another museum is the Museum Campus of Chicago. The Museum Campus is a
scenic 57-acre lakefront park that connects three of Chicago's world-class
institutions - the Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum, The Field Museum
and the John G. Shedd Aquarium. The Campus unifies the three museums into a
collective destination with more than four million visitors each year. The
Museum Campus grounds feature terraced gardens, lush green spaces and
broad walkways, which provide an easy and scenic route to the three
museums. This setting allows the museums to extend their teaching
outdoors, working with the Chicago Park District and the City of Chicago
to provide educational and recreational programming that combines
learning and fun.
I can honestly say that this was my favorite
part of the trip. Even the elevator ride was
exciting! I thought that it was really neat to
look over the whole city from the top of the
tallest building in the world. I don’t
understand how some people hated it! Heights
don’t bother me, so that could be a factor in
why I enjoyed it immensely while others
despised it.
After driving for five hours, we
arrived at Chicago’s Navy Pier.
At the Pier, we took a tour on
the speedboat Seadog. The
Seadog tour was fun, even if the
tour part went kind of slow.
About an hour after the tour,
we split up in to our groups to
go eat lunch and hang around
the pier. I could hardly stand to
eat because my braces had just
been adjusted, but I enjoyed it
all the same.
At 1:45, we went to the IMAX
theater to watch NASCAR 3D. I
thought that was the worst part of
the whole trip. I am no fan of
racing, but the movie was boring
even to those who are. I am sure
that I am not the only one who
thinks that movie was a waste of
time and money.
From 3:15 to 4:15, we visited the
Sears Tower. We went to the very
top on the Sky deck. You could
see for miles around! It was
wonderful, I really enjoyed it!
After that, it was time to head
home. We stopped for
Arbys/McDonalds on the way
home to eat. We didn’t get back
until 11:00. Tiring? Yes. Tedious?
Sometimes. But fun? Definitely!
