SUMMARY: 8 years of fruitful Senor Associate Pastoring in a 600+ member
church, 20 years of lay ministry, 13 years in business development. Married 17
years with 2 kids. I’m proficient at catalyzing people into action and community by
teaching, mentoring, vision casting, and management.
Seeking: To serve as a Senior teaching/leadership position in a Spirit led body of
Christ with commiserate resources and freedom to command.
Hi there family- I’m posting this letter/resume in response to the Movement of God in my life.
There has always been a call of God on my life, and He has produced good enduring fruit in people's
hearts and lives involved in the ministries I’ve served as a leader. I’ve been in lay ministry for 20 years
and full time ministry for 8. My background includes marketplace jobs and business training in addition to
bible school and Seminary.
I grew up in God’s community with my dad being a pastor and denominational leader. In High School I led
the youth group taught Sunday school. In college I went through a crisis of faith and went the way of
flesh. At 23, I re-dedicated my life to Jesus- I could not stay way. I was drawn to the heart of our Savior in
a new deep way. I felt like King David; always longing for His presence. At 24 I married, was baptized at
age 26 and became involved serving in church again. I led weekly bible studies, and delivered the
message some Sunday mornings at church.
I came on staff at Inland Vineyard in January 2001 (then a church of 1,800). Since my education was
from Cal-Poly, I added to my training bible collage/ministry training from the Vineyard Leadership
Institute. I led Children’s Ministries, Small Groups, Wednesday Bible Study, Sunday Night service, various
administrative projects, and ultimately managing the staff as the Sr. Associate Pastor. In between
teaching 3 times a week, I added to my education 2 years of Seminary classes.
Unfortunately sin overtook the Sr Pastor I was under. God removed him, and succession went to his son.
God released me from the 10 year assignment at Inland Vineyard into a season of refocusing, healing,
recharging, and equipping. The Spirit then placed me into the marketplace to widen my perspective,
touch non-church goers, and pay off debt. I’ve always known it would be temporary, and have been
waiting for when God would move me back into full time teaching and leading His flock.
Jesus has planted and nurtured things inside of me that need to be let loose for His glory and His bride.
Having ended my marketplace job in January 2011, the Lord is pushing me out of the nest to do what
He designed me to do. In preparation, He’s been clarifying the yoke and direction to share, resulting in a
discipleship web site*, and now seeking out the part of His body He has been preparing for me to serve.
Is it you guys?
I’m Passionate about my pastor role to be a catalyst for community and growth by leading people
closer to our Lord, their true selves in Christ, and into their unique function here on Earth! I do this via
biblical teaching, strategic programs, investing in staff and leaders, and calling people out of lies. I’ve
been blessed to facilitate empowering environments and trusting communities. I encourage others to be
real with God, themselves, and each other by sharing my hungry heart for God, my vision of His beauty,
and my open authenticity about where I’m at in my journey.
I’ve found that being successful in ministry is directly connected to being present to what the Lord is
doing, and joining in on His work. The key is abiding intimately in Jesus and His love; knowing Him as
strength and source; His good fruit comes only from this. I invite people to follow Jesus with me; to learn
to abide and become all Jesus created them to be- active in His body and love mission to the world.
I’m good with money and administration. I have deep understanding of God, His word, theology, the
spiritual realm and people. I also bring business experience regarding process improvement, automation,
return on investment, and keeping plans moving forward.
It’s due to Jesus that I have any useful competency to offer your team and body. Kind souls have shared
over the years that I am an excellent teacher and leader, full of competency and Godly character. You’ll
have to judge for yourselves by speaking to me, my references, listening to past teachings, and hearing
rd
from the Spirit. To help you, please carefully read below accurate 3 party assessments detailing the
temperament, and strengths that God has given me for His work. Finally, you’ll also find my
summarized statement of faith.
Bless you in your search!! I trust Jesus will lead us all: you guys to the right leader, and me to the right
team.
Humbly in Christ, Shawn Johnson

My Personality/Temperament (per the Meyers-Brigs assessment):
Type: ENFJ; Extraverted iNtuitive Feeling Judging. This is an unusual mix that only 2% of people posses.
Below are details about the ENFJ make up that are accurate for me.
ENFJs have the capacity to inspire others. They have been called life’s teachers. They are naturals in
teaching, leading, and working with others’ needs – finding the exact words and affirmations to inspire.
Their Extraversion focuses their attention on others. Their iNtuition can be inspirational and encouraging,
especially when things are going badly. Their Feeling keeps them sensitive to people and the situation.
And their Judging keeps the entire process going so that everyone ends up with a sense of
accomplishment. With an ENFJ’s support, people can face difficult moments and end up not only
reaching a goal, but enjoying the process of getting there. Based on a seeming instinct of what people
need to do to get a job done well, they initiate changes to help people actualize their power in growth-
oriented socially acceptable ways. The goal is to help people thrive in their environments and be
positively affirmed for their accomplishments. Natural networkers, they have energy that easily connects
people to others, to processes, and to procedures that will help further their intent for a glowing personal
success. They have a vision that organizations exist to serve people.
Here are some other characteristics. ENFJs…
Are very nurturing and caring, driven and motivated by sincere concern for the welfare of others.
Are very accomplished at working with other people and groups.
Are looked to by others for leadership and decisiveness.
When ENFJs scan a situation, they are usually aware of the many interpersonal dynamics taking place.
Their iNtuitive preference interprets each party’s actions and reactions – who seems stressed, who needs
to be motivated, who should be reprimanded, who needs a listening ear – while their Judging preference
provides direction or suggestions as appropriate. Frequently their advice is apt, which can lead to both
gratitude and dependence.
Naturally Bring to a Team:
See potential in others; their relationships are about mentoring
Can be good at drawing out the best in others, providing team members with camaraderie,
mutual support, and a commitment to the overall team effort
Are talented at gaining consensus using collaboration and cooperation
Are catalysts who energize the team with enthusiasm and humor
Are tuned in to organizational climate
Teamwork Style:
Facilitate goal accomplishment through cooperation and considering all options
Use their communication skills, enthusiasm, and warmth to gain cooperation
Democratic and participative; they seek to mentor people to achieve their potential through
coaching, encouragement, and by providing positive feedback
Encourage and honor diversity to utilize the resources of the team
The overall work style of the ENFJ is upbeat, affirming, positive, and marked by an above-average social
awareness. ENFJs believe work should be a team effort. ENFJs have an unusually strong need to lead
the workforce to its goals. They are often the spokesperson for the core values and ideals of an
organization. Often they see their efforts as related to the developmental needs of others and will promote
understanding among individuals in a group.
(Famous ENFJs include Oprah Winfrey, Abraham Lincoln, Pope John Paul II, Margaret Mead, Ronald
Reagan, Barack Obama, Ralph Nader, Abraham Maslow, Dr. Phil McGraw, and Martin Luther King, Jr.)
My Strengths (per StrengthsFinder 2.0 Assessment by Rath)
#1-Strategic:
Strategics are innovative and original thinkers- often seeing creative ways proceed, and bringing added
dimension to discussions; piecing together patterns of cause-and-effect from past or current events
allows them to propose alternative routes to a particular goal. They sort through the clutter to find the best
route, and see patterns where others see complexity. Strategics often see the consequences before
anyone else can, and see repercussions more clearly than others can.
Strategics relish the opportunity to share their insights. They enjoy group problem-solving technique that
involves the contribution and ideas from all participants. Strategics innovative and procedural approach is
critical to the genesis of the new venture. They are leaders in their ideas, and highly effective when
involved in the front end of new initiatives or enterprises.
Strategics effectively use the spoken word; demonstrating ease of language. They express themselves
with ease and grace, and characteristically find the right words to express whatever they are thinking.
Strategics carefully select the right combination of words to convey their ideas and feelings. They offer
explanations, discuss ideas, give examples, and share stores.
Strategics need time alone to think and work; Musing time is essential to strategic thinking for them!
#2- Relater:
Relaters are comfortable with intimacy and derive a great deal of pleasure and strength from being
around close friends. They are a catalyst for bringing people and teams together. Friends are their fuel,
and they enjoy close relationships with others. Relaters deliberately encourage the deepening of
relationships and are pulled towards people they know. For them great value is in genuine friendship;
mutual risk, trust, support and care. Relaters are forthcoming; they want to understand people's feelings,
their goals, their fears, and their dreams; and they want others to understand theirs.
Relaters are highly effective in teambuilding. They often readily perceive and understand the ambitions
and needs of others that give they insights into the type of support, training, experiences, partnerships, or
nurturing that each person needs to thrive. Relaters strive to honor everyone's unique qualities and
preferences. They derive deep satisfaction from helping individuals improve personally, professionally,
emotionally, and spiritually. Relaters find deep satisfaction in working hard with friends to achieve a
shared goal.
Relaters let their caring show, especially in mentoring and giving encouraging insights and ideas. They’re
more interested in the character and personality of others than in their status or job title. Relaters best
times are spent with people they are the closest to.
#3- Command
People with the Command strength naturally like to take charge and people often willingly hand them the
reins. They are comfortable imposing their views on others. They especially feel the need to take charge
when they can see the unmet needs of others and how to address them.
Command people are naturally decisive. They have presence, are very candid, and willing to take
chances. They push people to take risks. They are effective at removing bottlenecks and roadblocks.
Once their opinion is formed, they often need to share with others. They need things to be clear between
people and I challenge them to be clear-eyed and honest. They believe that most people need clarity and
honesty, and enjoy providing that.
#4- Communication
Communicators are great presenters. They find it easy to put their thoughts into words, and delight in
opportunities to present and share their thoughts with others. They are highly effective at capturing
people's attention. Communicators take an idea and enliven it with images and examples and metaphors,
so that it will stick and survive in people's minds. They like to explain, to describe, to host, to speak in
public, and to write. Communicators’ word pictures peak people's interests, sharpen their world, and
inspire them to act. People like to listen to them, because they are candid, personable, and use dramatic
words and powerful word combinations to communicate.
Communicators are comfortable speaking candidly about themselves. They are willing to risk and
become vulnerable. Their forthcoming nature enables other people to share their thoughts and feelings
more freely.
Communicators enliven dialogue by honoring each human being. They are instinctively able to distinguish
each person's unique contribution to a conversation, and often guide the exchange of information by
drawing out the perspectives of individuals. Communicators are gifted in fostering dialogue among peers
and colleagues, and summarizing the various points to build consensus by helping others see what they
have in common.
#5- Ideation
For these folks, ideas are fascinating, thrilling and powerful. They often use words, terms, or phrases that
force people to stop and think in new ways.
They delight when they discover that beneath the complex surface is an elegantly simple concept to
explain why things are the way that they are. Theirs minds are always looking for and finding
connections-between ideas, concepts, spiritual truth and people. Ideation people enjoy taking the world
we all know and turning it around so we can view it from a strange but strangely enlightening angle.
Others see them as creative, original, insightful and smart. Ideation people need scheduled time to think
creativity, because thinking energizes them.
#5b- Activator/Maximizer:
Activators and Maximizers are energized by opportunities and possibilities. They can transform innovative
ideas into immediate tenacious action. They make people feel special by pointing out the importance and
useful of an attribute that they possess or of something they contributed.
They have a natural ability to identify, sort, and support the strengths of others, and like to capitalize on
the gifts that they and others have collectively. Strengths fascinate them- whether they are theirs or
somebody else's- they look for them, search them out, and want to develop them by calling them out into
open use. Activators and Maximizers are good at setting a focus for people and then building a sense of
team spirit as all march forward.
My Statement of Faith
I believe that God is the Eternal King. He is an infinite, unchangeable Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom,
goodness, justice, power and love. From all eternity He exists as the One Living and True God in three
persons of one substance, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory.
God’s kingdom is everlasting. From His throne, through His Son, His eternal Word, God created, upholds
and governs all that exists: the heavenly places, the angelic hosts, the universe, the earth, every living
thing and human beings. God created all things very good.
I believe that Satan, originally a great, good angel, rebelled against God, taking a host of angels with him.
He was cast out of God’s presence and, as a usurper of God’s rule, established a counter-kingdom of
darkness and evil on the earth.
God created us in His image, male and female, for love relationship with Himself and to govern the
earth. Under the temptation of Satan, we doubted God’s goodness for us, fell from grace, and brought
sin, sickness and God’s judgment of death to the earth. Through the fall, Satan and his demonic hosts
gained access to God’s good creation. Creation now experiences the consequences and effects of sin.
Humans are born in sin, subject to God’s judgment of death and captive to Satan’s kingdom of darkness.
God did not abandon His rule over the earth which He continues to uphold by His providence. In order
to bring redemption, God established covenants which revealed His grace to sinful people. In the
covenant with Abraham, God bound Himself to His people Israel, promising to deliver them from
bondage to sin and Satan and to bless all the nations through them. I believe that as King, God later
redeemed His people by His mighty acts from bondage in Egypt and established His covenant through
Moses, revealing His perfect will and our obligation to fulfill it. The law’s purpose is to order our fallen
race and to make us conscious of our moral responsibility. By the work of God’s Spirit, it convicts us of
our sin and God’s righteous judgment against us and brings us to Christ alone for salvation I believe that
when Israel rejected God’s rule over her as King, God established the monarchy in Israel and made an
unconditional covenant with David, promising that his heir would restore God’s kingdom and reign over
His people as Messiah forever.
Christ the Mediator and Eternal King: I believe that in the fullness of time, God honored His covenants
with Israel and His prophetic promises of salvation by sending His Son, Jesus, into the world. Conceived
by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, as fully God and fully human in one person, He is
humanity as God intended us to be. Jesus was anointed as God’s Messiah and empowered by the Holy
Spirit, inaugurating God’s kingdom reign on earth, overpowering the reign of Satan by resisting
temptation, preaching the good news of salvation, healing the sick, casting out demons and raising the
dead. Gathering His disciples, He reconstituted God’s people as His Church to be the instrument of His
kingdom.
After dying for the sins of the world, Jesus was raised from the dead on the third day, fulfilling the
covenant of blessing given to Abraham. In His sinless, perfect life Jesus met the demands of the law and
in His atoning death on the cross He took God’s judgment for sin which we deserve as law-breakers. By
His death on the cross He also disarmed the demonic powers. The covenant with David was fulfilled in
Jesus’ birth from David’s house, His Messianic ministry, His glorious resurrection from the dead, His
ascent into heaven and His present rule at the right hand of the Father. As God’s Son and David’s heir,
He is the eternal Messiah-King, advancing God’s reign throughout every generation and throughout the
whole earth today.
The Holy Spirit was poured out on the Church at Pentecost in power, baptizing believers into the Body of
Christ and releasing the gifts of the Spirit to them. The Spirit brings the permanent indwelling presence
of God to us for spiritual worship, personal sanctification, building up the Church, gifting us for ministry,
and driving back the kingdom of Satan by the evangelization of the world through proclaiming the word
of Jesus and doing the works of Jesus.
The Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ and He is our abiding Helper, Teacher, and Guide. I
believe in the filling or the empowering of the Holy Spirit, often a conscious experience, for ministry
today. I believe in the present ministry of the Spirit and in the exercise of all of the biblical gifts of the
Spirit. I practice the laying on of hands for the empowering of the Spirit, for healing, and for recognition
and empowering of those whom God has ordained to lead and serve the Church.
I believe that the Holy Spirit inspired the human authors of Holy Scripture so that the Bible is without
error in the original manuscripts. I receive the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments as my
final, absolute authority, the only infallible rule of faith and practice.
I believe that the whole world is under the domination of Satan and that all people are sinners by nature
and choice. Therefore, people are under God’s just judgment. Through the preaching of the Good News
of Jesus and the Kingdom of God and the work of the Holy Spirit, God regenerates, justifies, adopts and
sanctifies through Jesus by the Spirit all who repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and
Savior. By this they are released from Satan’s domain and enter into God’s kingdom reign, or God’s care;
YES!!!
I believe in the one, holy, universal Church. All who repent of their sins and confess Jesus as Lord and
Savior are regenerated by the Holy Spirit and form the living Body of Christ, of which He is the head and
of which we are all members. I believe that Jesus Christ committed two ordinances to the Church: water
baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Both are available to all believers.
God’s kingdom has come in the ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ, and it continues to come in the
ministry of the Spirit through the Church, and it will be consummated in the glorious, visible and
triumphant appearing of Christ–His return to the earth as King. Christ will bring about the final defeat of
Satan and all of his minions and works, the resurrection of the dead, the final judgment and the eternal
blessing of the righteous and eternal conscious punishment of the wicked. Finally, God will be all in all
and His kingdom, His rule, care, and reign, will be fulfilled in the new heavens and the new earth,
recreated by His mighty power, in which righteousness dwells and in which He will forever be
worshipped. Amen!
Perspective:
God has a plan that He is always working, and nothing can stop His good purposes. His presence, life and
love is here and overtaking creation; transforming and redeeming everything. Our role is to be aware of
Him, and to join in by His leading and empowerment. Everything in a disciple’s life flows from
connection with God. He is our Home and Vine, and the most important thing we do is to connect with
Him and flow with His love and life. We each have a special and unique purpose in the function of His
body and mission to the world.
