MEETING AT THE “ALPINE RESCUE CENTRE” IN EDOLO
On Wednesday 26th February, after visiting the hydroelectric power station, we went to the alpine
rescue centre, in Edolo. Here the President, Mr Valerio Zani, showed us some slides and explained
how his job is organized.
He talked about the rescue, made with the help of helicopters, and about the different rescue teams
that work in the north of Italy.
In Lombardy there are 5 centres and the one in Edolo is part of the fifth delegation of Brescia; it
includes
Ponte di Legno
Temù
Media Valle Camonica
Valle Sabbia
Valle Trompia.
Mr Zani spoke about the specifications and the abilities required to become a a member of this kind
of teams. We also learned about the training and the reasons why there are so many accidents.
We watched two videos regarding some examples of rescue in different places and different
weather.
In the square, just outside the centre, we could see the” Cevedale trestle”, a light tool which is very
useful when you have to let yourself down along steep faces or if you want to rescue somebody.
With the trainers’ help, we were able to identify both to casualties and rescuers. During our meeting
we also meet Beksi, an avalanche dog lover. Even if it hasn’t started its job yet, it is so well-trained
that we’re sure it will do it properly!
