What Visiting Groups Do
We try to expose each group to the many aspects of our ministries and give
them a chance to develop relationships with the children we serve. A
customized schedule will be created for your group, which will be coordinated
with the Volunteer Coordinator and made available to you beforehand, per
your request.

Direct service (working with LLUM clients)
Groups may spend time working with children during our after-school programs
and/or summer programs (depending on when you come) which are offered
Tuesday-Saturday. See our website (www.littlelights.org) for a full list of programs.
Summer program offerings will be less extensive then the school-year program
schedule. For details, contact the Volunteer Coordinator.
Other miscellaneous direct service tasks may include, but are not limited to:
     Painting homes for families
 Delivering groceries items, informational flyers/brochures/applications to
       families at Potomac Gardens
 Hosting and/or assisting with public community events
 Participating in prayer walks through our facilities and neighborhood(s)

Administrative Tasks
Time may be spent participating in various tasks. These projects vary
considerably, and may include, but are not limited to:
• Building maintenance and landscaping
 Copying, filing, mass mailings
 Office organization of supplies
 Computer maintenance (for volunteers with expert experience)
 Vehicle maintenance

These projects:
• Save money, allowing LLUM to direct more of its resources towards children’s
activities.
• Help to keep our facilities clean and in good working order.

 Are a witness to the community of what it means to have loving neighbors
  (you!  )

What visiting groups can expect
Even though your group is here to serve, you may be surprised at the blessings
you will receive from our students and families. We also strive to provide quality
training and learning opportunities to further expose visiting groups to the realities
of urban ministry. We recognize the sizable sacrifices groups make to serve us
(time, money, and energy) and try our best to make sure this is a time of mutual
blessing for our visitors.

Education, Spiritual Development
Activities provided for visiting groups as part of their on-site training and learning
experience may include, but are not limited to:
• Morning devotions
• A session with our executive director, Steve Park.
• A tour of our facilities
• Workshops/discussions on social justice issues, including racial reconciliation
 Regular prayer meetings with LLUM staff

Staff Liason
Throughout the week, we want your group to feel fully integrated into our LLUM
family. One way to usher this is through your staff liason (Tiffany), who will be on-
call for your group 24 hours a day and will be guiding your group through your
scheduled itinerary. She is available to process through any questions, concerns,
and/or surprising encounters you may experience while at Little Lights.

Most importantly
We recognize that you are here to serve God through your service to others. We
are so blessed that you’ve chosen the opportunities we have at Little Lights to do
so! It is our hope and prayer that this experience will encourage and challenge
your group’s understanding of what it means to love God and love others.

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his
life as a ransom for many. (Mark 10:45)

In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the
weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, 'It is more
blessed to give than to receive. (Acts 20:35)

We’re looking forward to having you work alongside us! 
