Flash Practice Exercise
Introduction
This exercise is broken down into 3 parts;
1. Task A requires candidates to design a multimedia presentation
2. Task B requires candidates to acquire and prepare all resource materials
3. Task C requires candidates to create the planned multimedia presentation
Scenario
You are currently employed as a consultant multimedia author to an advertising company, Design
Media Ltd. You have been asked to create an interactive multimedia presentation to promote and
inform a target audience about Warwickshire College. The client has asked that the following be
included:
between 6 and 10 screens
a minimum of 6 relevant images
animation consisting of at least 6 frames
at least 2 sound files; 1 of speech and 1 of music
a video file
Task A – Design
Create the design documents for your multimedia presentation as follows:
1) Write a short 'Terms of Reference' using the template provided.
2) Research and identify resources available to be included in the presentation. Use the storyboard
templates supplied to create a sketch for the Master screen and a sketch for each individual screen.
Use the style sheet template supplied to detail the consistent styles to be used.
4) Create a structure diagram outlining the relationship of the pages/screens to each other and detailing
the navigation between them.
5) With reference to one particular aspect of your resources (e.g. video clip) and to respect copyright,
write a short letter/e-mail to the owner of the resource asking for permission to use the resource in
your presentation. Include details of exactly what you wish to do with the resource (edit, mix,
manipulate etc.).
Your design documents will include the following, clearly labelled:
Terms of Reference
story board sheets
a structure diagram
a style sheet
a letter or e-mail format request
Task B – Gather resources
In accordance with your storyboards use available resources to prepare and save files in the
appropriate format to your storage area. Images and text are available on the college web site
www.warkscol.ac.uk and video files can be downloaded from WebCT.
Text
1) Ensure spelling is checked and corrected. Store text in a text or word processing file for later use.
Images
2) Use image creation/manipulation software to:
resize the images to your designs
adjust/alter colours to suit
set transparency to suit
save the file in a suitable format
Sound
3) Use available software to create two sound files
one sound file should be of speech
one sound file should be a short clip of music
Video
4) Use available software to capture and edit video
one video file should be prepared
Animation
5) Use available software to create an animation
a sequence of images should be prepared and an animation created
Task C - Create a multimedia presentation
Creation of the pages/screens
Use the storyboards to:
1) Create the appropriate number of pages/screens
2) Import text from the text file into the correct pages/screens
3) Format the text according to your style sheets
4) Import/insert the images
5) Include a sound file of speech, setting up the defined method of playing
6) Include a sound file of music, setting up the defined method of playing
7) Include one video file setting up the defined method of playing
8) Include the animation file setting up the defined method of playing
9) Set up any additional elements as defined in your 'production notes'
Navigation
10) Ensure you set up the page/screen navigation in accordance with the structure diagram
and the navigation information contained in the storyboards.
Testing
11) Run the multimedia presentation and check the following components appear as expected in
accordance with your storyboards and style sheet.
