Gary Reilly
Democrat for City Council
I’m running for City Council
to keep our neighborhoods strong,
livable and progressive.
“Sometimes I think I’ve led a charmed life. I was the first
person in my family to attend college and I put myself
through both college and law school. I met a wonderful
woman who became my wife and brought me into
Brooklyn — in a neighborhood I’ve come to love. And
I’m doing the work that is my passion — as an environ-
mental lawyer and community activist I’ve been fighting
to improve our neighborhoods and keep them strong.
“I’m running for City Council so I can do even more
for our neighborhoods. We have a great area, but
we still need to improve our transportation options.
We need to keep our neighborhood livable, and resist
the trend towards overdevelopment. We must keep our
schools among the best in the city. We must make sure
that seniors and young families will not be priced out
of our neighborhoods by the lack of affordable housing.
“Too often, the priorities of
the City have favored big Photographs by Herb Bardavid
projects and big developers —
like the Atlantic Yards project.
I’ll make sure that our
neighborhoods are the number
one priority. That’s what I’ve
always cared about. I’m proud of the fights I’ve won, and
my commitment is to bring that energy and compassion
to the City Council.”
— Gary Reilly, candidate for City Council
Gary Reilly has the priorities we share, and
gets the results we need.
Keeping our neighborhoods moving in
the right direction.
Gary Reilly has been a passionate advocate for improving
our transportation system. He led the campaign to bring
back express service on the F Line. He will fight to extend
local service on the V Line and bring the G Line further
into Brooklyn.
Neighborhood priorities,
not developer priorities
The Atlantic Yards project is a perfect example of mis-
placed City priorities. Eminent domain is being used to
tear up neighborhoods. Tax breaks are being given to
well-connected developers for a basketball arena, while
neighborhoods are facing crumbling transportation
systems and we still dump raw sewage into our rivers
every time it rains. Gary Reilly has a different vision for
economic redevel-
opment. He’ll fight
for the transit, water
and school priorities that will keep our neighborhoods
strong, not make developers rich.
Good schools make great communities
More and more families are moving into our local
communities — drawn by the good schools that make our
neighborhoods so desirable. Gary Reilly wants to be sure
that our schools stay among the best in the city. He’ll fight
to make sure every child has access to quality public pre-K education and that funds are available
to prevent over-crowding in our schools.
