11   TO HONOR ALBERT F. BRANDEL, PRESIDENT OF THE
12   INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LIONS CLUBS, AND
13   TO THANK HIM FOR HIS SERVICE AND COMMITMENT TO
14   HELPING OTHERS.

16   Whereas, Albert F. Brandel of Melville, New York was elected
17   president of the International Association of Lions Clubs at the
18   association’s 91st International Convention, held in Bangkok,
19   Thailand, June 23-27, 2008; and
20
21   Whereas, he is a retired police detective, and for many years he
22   investigated child abuse and neglect, juvenile delinquency, and
23   domestic violence involving children and missing children; and
24
25   Whereas, Mr. Brandel has been a member of the West Hempstead
26   Lions Club since 1975 and an associate member of the Melville
27   Lions Club; and
28
29   Whereas, he has held many offices in the association, including
30   club president, district governor, and international director and has
31   also served as a presenter and panelist at USA/Canada Lions
32   Leadership Forums; and
33
34   Whereas, Mr. Brandel worked with the Long Island Lions Eye
35   Bank as a transporter and has been the Lions Representative to
36   UNICEF in New York for ten years, and helped coordinate Lions
37   relief efforts at the World Trade Center following September 11,
38   2001; and
39
40   Whereas, he has received numerous awards, including the 100%
41   Club President Award, the 100% District Governor Award, fifteen
42   International President’s Awards, and the Ambassador of Good

 1   Will Award, the highest award the association grants to its
 2   members; and
 3
 4   Whereas, Mr. Brandel is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow; and
 5
 6   Whereas, Mr. Brandel also has served as a Little League volunteer
 7   and as a Eucharistic minister and is a former member of the board
 8   of directors of the United Nations Association of the USA. Now,
 9   therefore,

11   Be it resolved by the Senate:
12
13   That the Senate of the State of South Carolina honors Mr. Albert
14   Brandel, President of the International Association of Lions Clubs,
15   and thanks him for his service and commitment to helping others.
16
17   Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
18   Albert Brandel.
