					NIRSpec Test Specification – IMA-PSF

Purpose:
This test obtains "clean" and well-sampled PSF images at a large
number of focus positions. We will use the RCSS point source
observed through the S1600 slit aperture.

Calibration sequences covered:

None.

Description:

The following OGSE/NIRSpec configuration parameters do not change
throughout the test:

CMO_abs: "RCSS"
CLS:      "CLOSE"
RCSS:     "MOS1_N"
CAA:      "OFF"
FWA:      "F110W"
GWA:      "MIRROR"

The test will obtain exposures of a 32x32 pixel detector sub-array
at the position the S1600 slit image. The RCSS will be positioned to
illuminate the center of the slit, and the MOS1_N filament will be
turned on. A suitable set of exposures will be obtained at each
position of a 5-point dither pattern (+/- one third of a detector
pixel in x and y), in order to improve the spatial sampling. Because
of the high flux of the RCSS, the detectors have to be operated in
window mode.

This sequence will be repeated for a full focus sweep as described
in IMA-FOCUS.

Data Acceptance Criteria (before moving to another test sequence):

The signal-to-noise ratio in each exposure must be at least 20
(TBC), i.e. the count level in the peak pixels of the PSF must be
~20 times (TBC) the RMS variation of the “dark” areas of the
exposure.
