Course Mission Statement: In studying from 1870 until 2001, students will interpret,
analyze, evaluate, and compare and contrast primary and secondary sources in American
history to understand how people, places, events, and ideas have shaped and influenced the
United States and the World.
Unit Outcome Focus: Students will analyze the causes and impact of the Great Depression Analyzes
the human cost of Dust Bowl as seen through art and literature, use Primary source materials to
explore individual experiences in the Dust Bowl in Kansas (diaries, oral histories, letters), analyze
the costs and benefits of New Deal Programs the Debate over expansion of federal government
programs during the Depression, evaluate the costs and benefits of governmental economic and
social policies on society
