� City­wide unemployment is 8.7%

o East New York is 19.2%

o Central and South Bronx is 15.7%

#4: Competitive Wages, Affordable Benefits & the Chance to Build a Career

� Walmart’s wages and benefits meet or exceed those offered by a majority of New York City competitors

� The average wage for regular full­time hourly Walmart associates in New York state is $12.57 per hour

� Benefits include affordable health plans, 401(k), and a 10% store discount

� From a health care perspective, Walmart:

o Offers plans as inexpensive as $15 per pay period for an associate only

o Has no annual or lifetime maximums on health plan use

o Provides all associates on company health plans access to almost any generic drug prescription

for $4

o Exceeds the requirements in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA)

� Nationally, close to 75% of Walmart’s store management team started as an hourly associate

� More than 65% of Walmart associates in the New York City region work full time

� In 2010, Walmart promoted more than 146,000 hourly associates across the U.S.





#5: Walmart Helps American Households Save Money

� According to the New York Post (February 1, 2011), some Queens residents could save 33% by

purchasing some everyday items at Walmart instead of their local grocery store

� Walmart offers $4 generic prescriptions at Walmart and SAM'S CLUB pharmacies; this program has

saved Walmart’s U.S. customers more than $3 billion since it was launched in 2006

� Walmart and Sam's Club have long­accepted SNAP, formally known as food stamp benefits, at all of our

stores nationwide

� 3 million New Yorkers lack adequate access to grocery stores

o Low­income neighborhoods have the highest need

o 1.4 million New Yorkers live in households that cannot afford an adequate supply of nutritious

� 25% of NYC children are obese. Research shows that the presence of a supermarket within a census

tract alone or in combination with a grocery store was associated with lower prevalence ratios of

obesity and overweight residents

� As the nation’s largest grocer, Walmart sells more locally grown produce than any company in America

#7: Walmart is Committed to Making Food Healthier and Healthy Food More Affordable

� Walmart was recently joined by First Lady Michelle Obama as it outlined the five key elements of an

effort to provide healthier and more affordable food choices:

o Reformulating thousands of everyday packaged food items by 2015

o Making healthier choices more affordable

o Developing strong criteria for a simple front­of­package seal

o Providing solutions to address food deserts by building stores

o Increasing charitable support for nutrition programs



#8: Walmart has a Positive Economic Impact on the Local Economy

� Walmart collected on behalf of the state of New York more than $372.6 million in sales taxes in FYE

2011.

� Walmart paid more than $97.4 million in state and local taxes in the state of New York in FYE 2011.

� In FYE 2011, Walmart spent $11.9 billion for merchandise and services with 2,466 suppliers in the state

of New York. As a result of Walmart's relationship with these suppliers, Walmart supports 136,199

supplier jobs in the state of New York

� In New York City alone, Walmart spent more than $5.7 billion last year for merchandise and services

with 835 city­based suppliers, the majority of which are small businesses





#9: Walmart Supports Local Communities

� Since 2007, Walmart has contributed close to $13 million to nonprofit organizations based in New York

City like the Summer Youth Employment Program, City Harvest, Dress for Success, New Yorkers for

Children and Food Bank for New York City, among others

� In New York State, Walmart donated 6,185,890 pounds of food to local food banks – nearly 4.7 million

meals in the last fiscal year

#10: Walmart is Committed to Diversity

� In 2011, Walmart launched a Global Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative to use the company’s

global size and scale to help empower women across its supply chain, including a goal to source $20

billion from women­owned businesses in the U.S. over the next five years

� We employ approximately:

o 248,000 African Americans

o 167,000 Hispanics

o 42,000 Asian Americans

o 5,000 Pacific Islander Americans

o 14,000 American Indian and Alaska Natives
