Virtual Field Trip
Grade Level: 5th
Subject Area: Social Studies; Egyptian Pyramids
Rationale:
First, we’re going to take a virtual tour of the Great Pyramid and its structure at this site.
>This website provides a download to a virtual tour of a pyramid that can be viewed full screen.
It also has links to other Egyptian history, temples, tombs, and legends information and pictures. The
virtual tour, however, was created on the computer, but is accurate (as far as I can tell).
Then, we’re going to look at the same pyramid viewed before, however, all the footage is real,
taken using some sort of special camera, at this site.

>This website provides more links to explore the pyramids in the realm of information. Also, at
each section of the virtual tour, there is a brief description of the area and where the places lead to.
Using Google Earth, we’re going to go to the Pyramids and the Sphinx, to take a look at them in
size and close up on the outside.
>Google Earth is a great tool for searching the earth for many locations, especially the ones that
provide 3D imagery for the area. In this case, the pyramids as well as a few other buildings and the
Sphinx are all in 3D.
Finally, we’re going to do more in depth research on the complex of the Great Pyramid, what
buildings were there and the vocabulary, at this site.

>This website provides a layout of the complex of the Great Pyramid that can be clicked on
certain places to discover more about that section or buildings. There is plenty of vocabulary on this site
as well.
Hopefully, by the end of this Virtual Field Trip, the students have enhanced their learning of the
Pyramids of Egpyt!
