The Australian Consulate General - New York invites applications for the position of Finance Officer.

The terms of employment will be in accordance with the Conditions of Service and New York-Based Staff Employee
Handbook. Employment will be offered on a contract basis, for an initial period of 12 months. The salary will be
$35,708 per annum.

The Australian Consulate General - New York will arrange the necessary work authorisation for the successful
applicant should he/she be a non-US citizen or non-US Permanent Resident

The Australian Consulate General - New York will not be responsible for any costs incurred when applying for a US
visa, relocation costs, nor the return of the officer and family to their country of origin at the end of the contract.


Job Description

As a member of the Finance team reporting to the Finance Manager, the position plays an important role through
the provision finance and accounting support relevant to the operations of the Consulate and the Permanent Mission
of Australia to the United Nations. The position also provides back up to the Human Resources team within the
overall framework of the Consulate and Mission.


Tasks and Functions

      1.    Certify the correctness of all claims prior to payment
      2.    Prepare accounts for payment and ensure payments are made accurately and on time
      3.    Process payments in SAP upon approval of claims
      4.    Maintain comprehensive accounting records and ensure expenditure is recorded against appropriate
            codes.
      5.    Maintain accurate record of staff entitlements. Ensure advances and acquittals are kept current and
            reimbursements are processed on time. Keep staff informed on the status of their entitlements.
      6.    Issue Debit Advice Notes to recover debts. Ensure all invoices are paid on time
      7.    Perform bank reconciliation each month and clear open items
      8.    Reconcile passport revenues
      9.    Liaise with staff and suppliers to reconcile any invoicing discrepancies
      10.   Prepare mobile phone declaration on a monthly basis
      11.   Assist with end of month and end of year reporting
      12.   As required, provide back up to the Human Resources section in areas such as attendance, leave and
            payroll
      13.   Create and maintain files for record keeping
Selection Criteria

   1.   Demonstrated finance and accounting experience – Essential
   2.   Excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills – Essential
   3.   Takes initiative and is responsive to the operational needs of the organisation – Essential
   4.   Proficiency in, or the ability to quickly learn, SAP Financial Management and Microsoft Office– Desirable
   5.   Familiarity of accounting concepts and/or Tertiary training in Accounting – Desirable
