Update on the new hospital!
Everywhere I go, everyone is asking where we are in the new hospital construction. I wanted to take my space for the column today to update you and hopefully answer all the questions. Lots of work has been going on behind the scenes for the new hospital. We have had two visits from the equipment planners, first to take an inventory, and then to review with all the departments what needs to be purchased new and what can be taken to the new hospital. I am sure you are not surprised to know there is more to bought new than be taken with us. As it stands now, our budget stands at $3,500,000 just for new equipment and furnishing. The company doing this work for us is called MEMData, and they continue to be very proactive on this project and are staying ahead of our schedule. As far as the building plans themselves go, the actual form of the hospital has been locked into the design computers, and now all the various engineers are working on the actual design. I have been down to Houston once, plus the engineers have been up here once, and I am going back to Houston again this week to have what is called the 50% design review. Civil, structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and kitchen planners will all be there, and we hope to get agreement on several major issues that are being discussed so we can move to the next step. If we get the 50% sign off as we predict in the next week or two, we then pass the plans off to USDA for their sign off. While that is being done, the Texas State Department of Health Services is reviewing our plans to make sure we are in compliance with all the codes and requirements. When I come back from the meeting in Houston, I will have a thick roll of building plans, I invite anyone to come by and see them if you have questions. I have also requested the architect to get me plans by department so your managers can have the plans in your area for you to go over, too. While this is going on, the interior design firm is preparing color boards showing finishes for walls, floors and such, and that should be out here soon, too. Once those arrive, we will arrange them, either in the board room or the dining hall, as well as have pictures on our website and our Communication Station outside Admissions, for you to see and appreciate. So, just like ducks on the water, calm at the surface, but paddling like mad underneath to stay in one place in the current, we have been getting lots done. Hope everyone has had the chance to meet our newest medical staff member, Dr. Hank Landers, be sure to give him a warm Golden Plains Community Hospital welcome.

Summer Fun!
What GPCH employees did during the Summer of ‘09
By Darla Wilson Business Office In July, my mother, my son and I went to Branson, Missouri. On the way, we stopped overnight in Oklahoma City to see the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building bombing site and National Memorial. We viewed the beautiful memorial at night, then visited the museum the next morning. Upon arriving in Branson, we were informed a cool front was moving in for the week. Temperatures were in the low 80’s! We stayed in a quiet resort on Tablerock Lake. We saw the show “The Duttons,” who appeared on the television show “America’s Got Talent” last season. We met other family members at Silver Dollar City for a day of riding, shows and good food. We attended the awesome musical production of “Noah’s Ark.” I highly recommend this show for everyone! On the way home we stopped over for the night in Krum, TX to visit with family. It was truly a relaxing vacation and I enjoyed spending time with my mother and my son.
By Nora Salomon Business Office The most exciting experience this summer was my weekend vacation to Las Vegas. One Thursday night, my cousin called me and invited me to Vegas since she was already there. Next day, I flew in to Las Vegas and spend the 4th of July weekend. It was a great experience since it was my first time visiting the “Sin City.” Even though I didn’t do too good gambling, I had a great time. I went to a couple of shows, did some shopping and walked down the strip. It was a short time that I was there but I enjoyed it. It was some kind of an adventure just leaving out of Borger for some days and trying out something different. I can’t say much more because what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!!
