It is truly an Obama invasion! I am too tired of hearing from him and seeing him. What is he saying? I see him moving his mouth, but what is he saying? Empty words and empty promises. Blah, Blah. MY CHILDREN WILL NOT BE SUBJECTED TO HIS ADDRESS!

A president addressing students as if they were real people...wow!

As a teacher having reviewed this suggested, non-mandatory lesson that compliments the president's address to the students of the USA, I find that it is approprate and about time. According to this document, the students are first being taught exactly who a president is and what he does. They have the opportunity to give their personal insights into this job. The children are given an appropriate amount of points to guide them in their listening and thought during the address. The guided questions for post address discussion are open ended and do not conclude that they must or must not do anything including agreeing with President Obama. I truly believe that this interaction with the president, as limited as it is, may encourage students to be more aware of the make up of our government, feel personally connected with the president and may actually want to perform to the best of their ability in school, at home and in the community.

I am appalled at his latest scheme to invade the impressionable phyche of our children. The schools which are under his control do have to listen to his rhetoric, but I thank MY GOD that my children will not receive his indoctrination, as I homeschool. This is the most UNAMERICAN President our Country has ever had. That sounds ridiculous. You would think our Presidents would have a great love for our Country, not so with Obama. His actions have proven he is ill equipped to revive our Country's economic situation, plus he is intent on destroying our Country from within. He is the most anti-family, anti-elderly, anti-Christian, anti-America and all we stand for, President. Frankly, I do not care what COLOR he is (GET OVER THAT! All those who think we are against him because he is what? black, white, what?), he could be orange for all I care. I EXPECT the PRESIDENT that WE ELECT, that WE HIRE, that WE PAY to love our Country and put it second (only after God) while his butt is parking in the White House. I EXPECT him to work FOR us and not make laws that destroy all we love. TexasForever, the reason Obama is choosing to address the children while they are at school and not address America as a whole, is because his rating have drastically took a nose dive since the election. Some people are finally seeing what they elected, the anti-christ. God's word says, the anti-christ will come and all will be enamored with him. Look at how the mindless drones drool all over themselves when they are looking at him. People need to wake up. The end really is nearer than we think. God's word is clear, those who are not for Him are against Him and those who are against Him, He destroys.

If President Obama's message is clearly intended to motivate children to become involved in their communities and to strive for excellence in their academic studies; Terrific. You asked.... When did civic duty, volunteerism, and academic excellence become bad things? NEVER. You brought up color....not a problem and that is getting tired....let it go. Everyone knows that K-6 are very impressionable years. I strongly feel that if President Obama's intentions are honorable he should release his speech so parents can review and decide if they want their child to watch and/or air it during family hour at night so parents and children can view together. Afterwards parents can discuss with their children what was said. Before I let my son watch movies I read parental reviews and then make the decision if he can watch it. I have gone numerous times to see a movie at the theater to watch it so I would know if it is appropriate for my son. Ratings mean nothing these days. I don't think it is too much to ask to read President Obama's speech before my child views it.

Carilake: Let me explain

Carilake: It's great that you don't have a problem with this. I'm fine with that. I do, though. Here's why: 1. The White House has not released the content of the speech so that parents like me who question the direction of this administration can decide if we want our children to listen or not. This is cowardly and suggests that he knows what our reaction will be. I am not willing to have my child indoctrinated by this man or his minions. That is my right as a parent. You have no say whatsoever in that decision. 2. The White House is asking my school to take time away from curriculum. My child goes to school to master curriculum. I resent that this White House does not seem to understand that focus on curriculum during the school day is far more important than a focus on the man who would be god. There are so many questions. Why are parents being excluded? Is it because Obama doesn't like what the majority of parents believe in this country? Is it for some perfectly legitimate reason? We don't know because the boy-king and his staff won't tell us. Let me ask you this, Carilake. Pretend for a minute that it isn't the President, but the pervert on the corner that wants access to your kids. Would you grant it? I hope not. The bottom line is that I don't know Obama's intentions and based on behavior to this point, I DO NOT TRUST HIM WITH MY KIDS. That, my dear, is the end of the discussion. He can throw me in jail. He can have me killed. He does not get my childrens' minds. No way. Not now. Not ever. Clear?

Those who cannot back up their beliefs with valid, intelligent information often resort to labeling, name calling and personal attacks like overacheiver did. Best to educate yourself overacheiver, than blindly follow. Reacquaint yourself with history, follow the unprecedented actions going on in government, learn about economics and think with common sense. There's always some truth and some good value involved in a great con.

Overachiever cracks me up. Wonder what his response would be if "W" tried this one when he was prez??? Face it Overachiever, Obama has become toxic...he is the most political President of our time, in campaign mode 24/7. Nationalizing banks, taking over car companies, selling out to the trial lawyers and big labor, cap and trade with higher taxes, ringing up massive debt, and now singing the virtues of socialized medicne and it's full brother rationed care. Now he wants to work his way into the psyche of the little ones when they are at their most impressionable. Call me all the names you want, you and/or Obama are not going to raise my child, I am. She stays home September 8.

Obama Civic Duty Speech

I find it surprising that so many of you call yourselves responsible parents, yet you are refusing to let your child listen to Obama's message which is clearly intended to motivate children to become involved in their communities and to strive for excellence in their academic studies. Did I miss something here? When did civic duty, volunteerism, and academic excellence become bad things? Apparently, only when they are touted by that terrible, Nazi-riffic, communist, socialist, foreigner Obama! Honestly, it is no wonder that American school kids are at the bottom of the academic heap with imbeciles like you for parents. Maybe you can indoctrinate them in creationism, sexism, and gay-bashing while you keep them home from this address. Face it, he's black, he's your President, and you can't stand it. (This is exactly what your kid is going to be thinking when you keep him home for the day - what a great parent you are)!

It is my job as a parent to see that my children are educated. I promised God i ould raise them in the way he has chosen. The teachings of Jesus are the principals they are taught. Their morals, love for mankind, in regard to Gods work is the foundation for their morals..it is my job, as I have been doing, to teach of government, why we vote, how we vote, and how to chose a candidate to vote for. also, the Constitution and decleration of Independence. In God we trust, one Nation under God. My children will be at school, but protesting while Obama brainwashes other children..Obama....Leave MY Kids Alone....

PreK-6 Menu of Classroom Activities: President Obama’s Address to Students Across America Produced by Teaching Ambassador Fellows, U.S. Department of Education September 8, 2009 Before the Speech:  Teachers can build background knowledge about the President of the United States and his speech by reading books about presidents and Barack Obama and motivate students by asking the following questions: Who is the President of the United States? What do you think it takes to be President? To whom do you think the President is going to be speaking? Why do you think he wants to speak to you? What do you think he will say to you?  Teachers can ask students to imagine being the President delivering a speech to all of the students in the United States. What would you tell students? What can students do to help in our schools? Teachers can chart ideas about what they would say.  Why is it important that we listen to the President and other elected officials, like the mayor, senators, members of congress, or the governor? Why is what they say important? During the Speech:  As the President speaks, teachers can ask students to write down key ideas or phrases that are important or personally meaningful. Students could use a note-taking graphic organizer such as a Cluster Web, or students could record their thoughts on sticky notes. Younger children can draw pictures and write as appropriate. As students listen to the speech, they could think about the following: What is the President trying to tell me? What is the President asking me to do? What new ideas and actions is the President challenging me to think about?  Students can record important parts of the speech where the President is asking them to do something. Students might think about: What specific job is he asking me to do? Is he asking anything of anyone else? Teachers? Principals? Parents? The American people?  Students can record any questions they have while he is speaking and then discuss them after the speech. Younger children may need to dictate their questions. After the Speech:  Teachers could ask students to share the ideas they recorded, exchange sticky notes or stick notes on a butcher paper poster in the classroom to discuss main ideas from the speech, i.e. citizenship, personal responsibility, civic duty.  Students could discuss their responses to the following questions: What do you think the President wants us to do? Does the speech make you want to do anything? Are we able to do what President Obama is asking of us? What would you like to tell the President?  Teachers could encourage students to participate in the Department of Education’s “I Am What I Learn” video contest. On September 8th the Department will invite K-12 students to submit a 1 video no longer than 2 min, explaining why education is important and how their education will help them achieve their dreams. Teachers are welcome to incorporate the same or a similar video project into an assignment. More details will be released via www.ed.gov. Extension of the Speech: Teachers can extend learning by having students  Create posters of their goals. Posters could be formatted in quadrants or puzzle pieces or trails marked with the labels: personal, academic, community, country. Each area could be labeled with three steps for achieving goals in those areas. It might make sense to focus on personal and academic so community and country goals come more readily.  Write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president. These would be collected and redistributed at an appropriate later date by the teacher to make students accountable to their goals.  Write goals on colored index cards or precut designs to post around the classroom.  Interview and share about their goals with one another to create a supportive community.  Participate in School wide incentive programs or contests for students who achieve their goals.  Write about their goals in a variety of genres, i.e. poems, songs, personal essays.  Create artistic projects based on the themes of their goals.  Graph student progress toward goals. 2
