shooting sports
This month i’d like to talk about sports photography. i’ve covered
this before but it is my favorite subject so i’ll review again this month.
Knowledge of the sport will greatly increase your chances of
capturing an action shot. Since many sports are fast moving try to
anticipate the action and click the shutter button just before the moment
you want to capture.
using a zoom lens will allow you to get closer to the action. Try to
keep the sun behind you so your subject is well lit. You may need to
increase the iSo (speed setting) on your camera to get a fast enough
shutter speed to stop the action. if your camera has icons for different
shooting situations put it on the sports icon. it generally looks like a
runner (see green icon above). i recommend a shutter speed of 1/400
second or better if the lighting allows.
Keep shooting after the peak of the action and you may capture some
great expressions on the athletes’ faces.
That’s it for this month. as always you can email me with any
photographic questions or problems at my new email address bill@
kirmsphotography.com. if you’d like to see some of my work visit
my new web site at www.kirmsphotography.com. Keep shooting and
trying to improve your images, but most importantly, have fun with your
camera.
