Diversity
What does it really
mean?

What is Diversity and
Multicultural Education?
Diversity is the mixture of different cultures from around the
world living in the same society.
Known today as a “Tossed Salad”. Many different
ingredients together for the same purpose.
Multicultural Education is the ability of the teacher to enlighten
students of the many cultures around the world. It is also the
ability of the teacher to adapt to teaching those not of their
culture.
Bilingual Education
It is very important for
all teachers to be able
to speak at least two
different languages.
The second language
should be based on the
diversity of the students
attending the school. If
there are more
Hispanics that live in
the surrounding area,
Spanish should be the
second language
learned by the teachers.
Strategies to reduce the
effects of racism.
It is important to inform students they are all created
equal. They should know, based on their success
with their school work, they will be rewarded for a job
well done and reprimanded for unacceptable actions.
It is important to educate students of the effects of
racism. It is also important to let them know that it
will not be tolerated in the classroom and disciplinary
actions will be taken.
How to Become Aware
of the Differences
Between Students.
I can become aware of the differences
between my students by asking
questions, observation, and doing
research of my own so I can be more
knowledgeable of the differences.
Research will also help me to know how
to approach each student based on
their difference.
