SUBJECT: 110th Military Police Company (Guard) Policy Letter No. 11 - Unit Safety
Program

2. PURPOSE: To establish procedures and provide operational and administrative
guidance concerning the unit safety program.
3. APPLICABILITY: This policy applies to all Soldiers assigned/attached to the 110 th
Military Police Company (Guard). This policy constitutes a direct order and violations
are punishable under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ).
4. POLICY: Although the Commander is directly responsible for establishing and
implementing the unit safety program, safety is every Soldier’s responsibility. Soldiers
will not act in a manner that places their safety, or the safety of others, in jeopardy.
Soldiers will comply with this policy and applicable regulations and report safety
concerns/problems to the unit Safety/NCO or the Commander.

5. GENERAL PROVISIONS: Safety is the responsibility of every soldier. Therefore, all
personnel are encouraged to participate in the detection and correction of unsafe
conditions and utilize safe procedures in all unit activities/operations.
a. Safety briefings will be conducted before all training, before holidays, and during
guard mount briefs.
b. Prior to the execution of a mission or operation, the senior Soldier present must
conduct a risk assessment to identify and assess hazards, develop and implement
controls, and supervise the performance of the mission. When developing controls to
reduce or eliminate risk, the commander alone decides whether or not to accept the
level of residual risk or to elevate the decision to a higher level of command.
c. Accident Investigation Reports (DA Form 285-AB-R) are submitted for an Army
accident in which the total cost of property damage is $2,000 or more, but less than
$200,000. It will be submitted to the Commander NLT 2 days after the accident.
d. Ground guides will be used when backing up any military vehicle. There is no
excuse for any accident to occur when backing up a vehicle.
e. Approved waste and butt cans will be utilized in unit areas and billets. Ashtrays
will only be emptied into butt cans.
f. All ammunition, including blanks, simulators and pyrotechnic devices will be
stored IAW 190-11.
g. Required protective equipment will be worn while conducting organized athletics
or maintenance activities. Flashlights and reflective vests will be worn when conducting
PT during the hours of darkness.

h. Running or jumping in stairwells is prohibited, as is sitting on any railing.
6. This policy letter will remain in effect until rescinded.
