   relates to the project for which you seek Alcoa Foundation support?
   Guidance: Rather than describing your organization, describe how many people or places have tangibly
   improved their behavior or condition through your efforts and in what ways.




10. Select the ONE Alcoa Foundation result to which the project for which you seek funds clearly
    contributes.

   Environment
     Reduce: Use fewer natural resources, produce less waste, reduce emissions and mitigate
      climate change through exploration of renewable energy
              Significant reductions in waste, use of natural resources, and greenhouse gas emissions
              Increases in the number of community members or organizations who take significant
              actions to reduce waste and their use of natural resources
      Recycle: Drive greater recycling rates and the re-use of materials
              Increases in the number of community members or organizations who take significant
              action to recycle or re-use regularly
      Replenish: Support biodiversity, enhance parks and land use, promote reforestation and
      conserve quality of water resources
              Measureable improvements in land, water and air quality, or biodiversity through
              community-based efforts
      Measure & Set Standards: Develop meaningful standards that measure comprehensive
      product and industry environmental footprints, including support for holistic lifecycle analysis
              Creation and use of voluntary standards through research, policy dialogue, and
              demonstration projects

   Empowerment
     Youth Leadership & Development: Support local outreach efforts that encourage 9th-12th
      graders in underserved communities to develop the life and professional skills that will
      enable success
              Increases in the number of secondary school students who demonstrate significant
              leadership skills in their school, community, or workplace
      Workforce Development: Provide education and training opportunities in engineering and
      manufacturing to promote self-sufficiency
              Increases in the number of adult learners who obtain, retain or improve their
              employment using improved technical, business or workplace readiness skills
      Social Enterprise: Build an eco-system that fosters the growth of small- and medium-sized
      enterprises, providing ‘blue’ and ‘green’ innovations that generate sustainable livelihoods
       for those in need
              Increases in the number of small- and medium-sized enterprises that are
               generating sustainable livelihoods through ‘blue’ or ‘green’ technologies

   Education
     Stem: Support innovative education, training programs, and teaching curriculums in
      the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math
              Increases in the number of teachers trained to promote and improve student
              achievement in STEM
              Increases in the number of students who express a significant academic interest
              in STEM, or pursue a career using STEM skills
      Environment: Promote environmental awareness and create environmental community
      ambassadors among our employees, students and community members
              Increases in the number of employees, students, or community members who lead
              environmental efforts in their workplace, school or community
      Safety: Encourage college students and young professionals to pursue careers in
      Environment, Health and Safety (EHS)
              Increases in the number of teachers trained to promote and improve student
              achievement in EHS
              Increases in the number of students who express a significant academic interest in EHS or
              pursue a career in EHS

   Sustainable Design
      Transportation: Seek solutions that are lightweight, improve fuel efficiency, and minimize
      the overall environmental footprint of mass transit
              Actionable options to address transportation challenges developed through research,
              policy dialogue, and demonstration projects
      Urbanization: Explore the role of architecture and design in building and construction to
      enable climate change adaptation and enhance the environmental and social
       sustainability of cities
              Actionable options to address urbanization challenges developed through research,

      Environmental Sustainability: Encourage design work that is aligned with Alcoa’s
      environmental priorities -- reducing the use of natural resources, increasing recycling
      rates, and replenishing the land

   Community Enhancement
     Arts & Culture: Improving the quality of life and economic success of our communities
               Successful contribution of arts, culture and heritage organizations to the
               economic vitality of the communities they serve
      Child & Family Enrichment: Providing enrichment opportunities and other support to
      strengthen underserved families
               Increases in the number of underserved families using enrichment services or other
               support to strengthen them socially, emotionally or physically
      Critical Social Services & Urgent Care: Broadening access to social services and urgent care,
      and improving the availability, quality and effectiveness of those services

              Increases in the availability and use of social services and urgent care to stabilize
              the lives of at-risk individuals
              Increases in the number of disaster-affected households which are provided with
              the basic inputs required for recovery
       Community Health: Ensuring that children and their families have the knowledge, tools and
       services to remain healthy and safe at home, in the community and in the workplace
              Decreases in the number of injuries at home, in school and in the workplace
              Increases in the number of individuals who engage in improved health behavior/practices
11. What are the specific results you expect to achieve for those you serve, and by when would those
    results be achieved?
    Guidance: Results are the changes in the behaviors or conditions of your participants, organization or the
    system itself as a result of interacting with your project or program. Do not focus on activities, projects
    implemented or levels of participant satisfaction. Focus instead on how they are different after they
    complete their interaction with you.




12. List other committed funders for this program and include the amount of their commitment during the
    grant period described in this application.




13. What is your communications strategy for this project?
    Guidance: a) Be specific and include detail such as press releases, web postings, brochures or other
    related material , and b) Identify the types of media you plan to use (if any), and approximately how
    many articles/reports you expect in each category




14. If applicable, what opportunities are there for volunteer engagement?
    Guidance: Categories of volunteers might include: Alcoa employees, Alcoa retirees, students and
    community members. Sample volunteer options include: manual volunteerism, skills-based
    volunteerism, volunteer keynote speaker, volunteer panelist, board placement, knowledge sharing, etc.
    Volunteer opportunities are encouraged, but not required for a grant.
