Johnny Perkins: that was really neat Mar 28, 2007 12:18:57 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: direct confirmation Mar 28, 2007 12:19:09 PM EDT

Megan Yates: yeah, it was nice to know that she really liked it Mar 28, 2007 12:19:34 PM EDT

Lori Bell: It was great to have support for our project... both the publisher and the professor Mar

28, 2007 12:19:39 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: i'd agree... Mar 28, 2007 12:20:02 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: were there any surprises as we went about the project - i was really surprised

with how easy we collaborated Mar 28, 2007 12:20:34 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: what about you guys? Mar 28, 2007 12:20:52 PM EDT

[Johnny Perkins left the session] Mar 28, 2007 12:21:43 PM EDT

[Johnny Perkins joined the session] Mar 28, 2007 12:21:53 PM EDT

Megan Yates: I was surpised by how much we agreed on the design elements Mar 28, 2007

12:21:35 PM EDT

Lori Bell: Yes... I was surprised at how everyone kind of viewed it differently... but in a good

way... our personalities showed in the writing Mar 28, 2007 12:21:38 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: I was surpised at how well it all came together in the end...we each had our

own little part to work on but deciding on things like the layout and font before hand really made

things work wel together Mar 28, 2007 12:21:40 PM EDT

James Hubbard: i agree Mar 28, 2007 12:21:58 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: i too agree Mar 28, 2007 12:22:32 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: So what didn't you guys like about the project? Mar 28, 2007 12:23:03 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: i think we could've spent a bit more time discussing the book as a class Mar 28,

2007 12:24:01 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: some people had more "book work" than others Mar 28, 2007 12:24:18 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: that might have helped give us a better overview of the book Mar 28, 2007

12:24:34 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: (even though the others...including myself....spent time doing other things

essential to the site) Mar 28, 2007 12:24:38 PM EDT

Lori Bell: I agree with Levi... For me, this isn't something I didn't like, but I wish we would have

spent a little more time on the graphics, like when we would scroll over them and they would

change in some way? But I know we were limited on time, but Levi did a good job with the final

layout of the site Mar 28, 2007 12:24:50 PM EDT

Megan Yates: I was annoyed by the fact that some people didn't put in as much effort as the rest

of us, and as a result our review isn't as complete as it could have been. Mar 28, 2007 12:25:19 PM

EDT

James Hubbard: there really wasnt anything i didnt like...the work load wasnt bad and like i

said earlier it was something new and different from my other classes Mar 28, 2007 12:25:28 PM EDT

Lori Bell: What did you find the hardest/most stressful? Mar 28, 2007 12:26:50 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: well, before the publisher came, I didn't know how ours would measure up to

other reviews Mar 28, 2007 12:27:11 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: so that was a little "stressful" I guess Mar 28, 2007 12:27:16 PM EDT

Megan Yates: limiting myself to a certain amount of words Mar 28, 2007 12:27:38 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: the fact that some team members weren't always in class Mar 28, 2007 12:27:45

PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: to help with the project Mar 28, 2007 12:27:53 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: yes, that was a little irritating Mar 28, 2007 12:28:03 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: the graphics work depended upon the content, and when the content wasn't

completed....well it makes the site look incomplete Mar 28, 2007 12:28:22 PM EDT

Megan Yates: yeah, that's what I ment before Mar 28, 2007 12:28:36 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: i agree with you, Megan Mar 28, 2007 12:28:48 PM EDT

Lori Bell: I agree with Diana. I kind of agree w/ Levi and Megan, it was stressful when people

didn’t participate as much... Mar 28, 2007 12:29:00 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: especially in a 490-level class...! Mar 28, 2007 12:29:18 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: James, you mentioned earlier that this was something new/different for you.

Do you think this project is relevant to your major? Mar 28, 2007 12:29:42 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: (This is for everyone to answer!) Mar 28, 2007 12:29:50 PM EDT

James Hubbard: not really.....im a law major so doing something like this didnt seem relevant

to me..... Mar 28, 2007 12:30:18 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: I think so somewhat, just because PR has a lot of writing in it and they are

always trying to update websites and such Mar 28, 2007 12:30:37 PM EDT

Megan Yates: I'm a broadcast telecommunication major, so book reviews don't really help me

out. However, learning how to use the software was a little helpful. Mar 28, 2007 12:30:54 PM EDT

Lori Bell: It was relevant for my creative writing, because I had to dig in to the book to see what

its highlights were, and it was just a good writing experience overall... just something

different Mar 28, 2007 12:30:56 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: any skills are marketable, i'd say Mar 28, 2007 12:31:04 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: as a graphic designer posing as an ENGL major, this was a welcomed treat for

me Mar 28, 2007 12:31:29 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: lol I imagine! Mar 28, 2007 12:31:42 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: even though I would've liked to have made the rollover graphics a reality Mar

28, 2007 12:31:55 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: if given more time Mar 28, 2007 12:32:01 PM EDT

Megan Yates: That would have been pretty cool Mar 28, 2007 12:32:09 PM EDT

[James Hubbard left the session] Mar 28, 2007 12:33:00 PM EDT

Lori Bell: Yeah... but it still turned out good Levi Mar 28, 2007 12:32:14 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: overall, this project was a nice integration between writing and design Mar 28,

2007 12:32:18 PM EDT

Megan Yates: Yeah, I got to apply some design thought processes in my section Mar 28, 2007

12:33:03 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: what would you recommend to the readers who would like to try the

project? Mar 28, 2007 12:33:50 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: I would recomend to delegate the tasks Mar 28, 2007 12:34:57 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: that made it easier for us I think Mar 28, 2007 12:35:02 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: well, I think those CCOnline readers might want to take a look at the process

behind the project Mar 28, 2007 12:35:07 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: delegate, but still collaborate Mar 28, 2007 12:35:16 PM EDT

Megan Yates: I think I would recommend good time management, and possibly start the process

as early as possible Mar 28, 2007 12:35:32 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: give ample time for editing and revisions Mar 28, 2007 12:35:47 PM EDT

Lori Bell: Yes... so it can leave more time for the website Mar 28, 2007 12:35:50 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: I agree Mar 28, 2007 12:36:30 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: also knowing that your class is RELIABLE is important Mar 28, 2007 12:36:37

PM EDT

Megan Yates: Ask for more books, so each person can have one to look over. That way nobody

has to wait for a book before they work on their section. Mar 28, 2007 12:36:44 PM EDT

Lori Bell: Yeah... and that there would be a set deadline for things... I really tried to get my stuff

done asap, but I only had one person look at it Mar 28, 2007 12:36:45 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: having a team that won't step up and complete tasks will make the project

difficult......a set deadline is a good idea Mar 28, 2007 12:37:01 PM EDT

Lori Bell: It really made me nervous if it was any good or not Mar 28, 2007 12:37:03 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: a lack of planning was probably another problem we had, thankfully we were

competent and got the job done Mar 28, 2007 12:37:46 PM EDT

Lori Bell: Yes... any other recommendations? Mar 28, 2007 12:38:06 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: So, did the project teach writing for the web versus writing a standard book

review? Mar 28, 2007 12:38:09 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: chunking! Mar 28, 2007 12:38:33 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: writing for a less-attentive audience Mar 28, 2007 12:38:42 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: what do you mean by that? Mar 28, 2007 12:38:47 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: chunking the text into small, readable chunks Mar 28, 2007 12:39:01 PM EDT

[James Hubbard joined the session] Mar 28, 2007 12:39:54 PM EDT

Lori Bell: I felt my writing wasn't quite as formal, it was more relaxed Mar 28, 2007 12:39:11 PM

EDT

Megan Yates: Getting to the point quickly, and limiting the amount of information Mar 28, 2007

12:39:15 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: adapted to a wider audience Mar 28, 2007 12:39:25 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: writing that isn't so academic-based Mar 28, 2007 12:39:36 PM EDT

James Hubbard: sorry i lost connection.... Mar 28, 2007 12:39:39 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: no, levi what did you mean by writing for a less-attentive audience? Mar 28,

2007 12:39:44 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: oh... Mar 28, 2007 12:39:58 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: i mean that this is writing for an audience that isn't necessarily going to read

the entire thing.... Mar 28, 2007 12:40:27 PM EDT

Megan Yates: Yeah, chances are people are just going to skim through it Mar 28, 2007 12:40:52 PM

EDT

Johnny Perkins: that's what i meant by "less attentive" Mar 28, 2007 12:41:03 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: oh I see Mar 28, 2007 12:41:12 PM EDT

James Hubbard: for the question before i would recommend that the people who want to try

this go into the assignment with an open mind....when we were first assigned this project i wasnt

too thrilled about it but it was fun and i ended up enjoying it Mar 28, 2007 12:41:13 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: true Mar 28, 2007 12:41:14 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: good point Mar 28, 2007 12:41:25 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: overall, how do we feel about the project now that we're done? Mar 28, 2007

12:42:04 PM EDT

Lori Bell: Most of our audience is people who are thinking about teaching this book... they want

to hear from students and their honest opinions Mar 28, 2007 12:42:09 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: i think we should be proud of it Mar 28, 2007 12:42:14 PM EDT

Lori Bell: I thought it turned out well Mar 28, 2007 12:42:28 PM EDT

James Hubbard: i think we did a good job..... Mar 28, 2007 12:42:31 PM EDT

Diana Musgrave: me too, I think that it came together nicely Mar 28, 2007 12:42:35 PM EDT

Megan Yates: I'm glad it turned out well Mar 28, 2007 12:42:38 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: cool Mar 28, 2007 12:42:44 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: i hope the team at cconline feels the same way :-) Mar 28, 2007 12:42:59 PM EDT

Johnny Perkins: see you all in class! Mar 28, 2007 12:43:04 PM EDT

Lori Bell: Nice chat everyone! See you later! Mar 28, 2007 12:43:13 PM EDT

Megan Yates: seeya Mar 28, 2007 12:43:17 PM EDT

James Hubbard: bye Mar 28, 2007 12:43:21 PM EDT
