SEQUOIA HEALTHCARE DISTRICT RECEIVES
BUSINESS AWARD FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE
Jan. 22, 2010
SAN MATEO — Sequoia Healthcare District was recognized for its support of community programs and its
critical funding of 27 nonprofits serving southern San Mateo County at the annual Business Awards dinner of the
San Mateo Area Chamber of Commerce Thursday, Jan. 21.
The San Mateo Area Chamber of Commerce, which represents more than 1,000 small-to-large businesses in
San Mateo County, annually turns over its awards screening process to a panel of social service agency
representatives and community leaders who select the deserving awardees. The Business Awards Committee has
broad discretion, does not take nominations and makes its selections based on an internal discussion of the merits
of individuals, groups and agencies.
Accepting the group’s Good Neighbor Award were Sequoia Board Member Katie Kane, ACHD board vice-chair
and incoming 2011 board president, and fellow Sequoia Healthcare District board member Art Faro. City of San
Mateo Mayor John Lee presented the award.
Sequoia Healthcare District was recognized for the more than $8 million it provides annually in support of its own
healthcare programs, safety net social services, the Sequoia Hospital Foundation and three community clinics.
“We appreciate this award because it recognizes the district for the benefit it brings to overall healthcare for the
members of our district,” Kane said. “We welcome anybody’s input as to where they see a healthcare need within
the community that they think we should address.”
More than 200 guests feted the district and eight other business organizations, nonprofits and individuals at
festivities Thursday night.
